I've recently started doing a little transcription in my free time. I'm able to type at a very fast speed, so it seems like a good way for me to make some extra money. Right now, I'm using Speechpad exclusively, but I'm interested in other transcription companies that will hire relative beginners. I've already signed up for Transcribe Me and passed several of their accent tests, but they haven't had any work since I joined, so I doubt that will pan out.

Does anyone have experience with other companies that hire beginning transcribers?

I have been looking to sign up to transcription websites for some time now. I have bookmarked several and have read many articles just did not have enough time to sign up to one in the past week. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login is a list of transcription websites it is mixed list containing both websites for beginners and experienced users. Just find what you are looking for.

I just signed up for TranscribeMe too...I was very hopeful about it but now I'm not so sure. I also use Speechpad and I've heard Scribie is good for beginners but I personally have not tried it myself.

TranscribeMe is a wonderful website. The pay is low but it pays fairly quickly and is a great site to get started on. You do only get 2 chances at the entrance exam so make sure you study their style guide.

I think that I recently registered with this sit, but I have not tried it. However, there are a lot of good reports and reviews about this site. I am going to give it a try soon and then I will report back on my experience.

I signed up for Transcribe Me and passed their test, but haven't had any work yet. I'll be looking at the other places you guys shared. Also, thank you guys for sharing. I can type fast and can usually catch errors fast if I do make them, so I feel I'd be pretty decent in this area. It is just hard trying to catch a break. Most places are not for beginners or require a degree (mainly for medical or law transcribing.) But thank you guys for sharing these with the rest of us.

I use Scribie. It's $1 for every 6min file. If you work fast then you can get a few done in a couple of hours.
It did take me a lil while to get on with them but it's worth the wait.

Hey thanks very much ... I will give it a try. So if I work 1 hour a day I should be able to make good money right?  :o

Can you share your experience with speechpad? I have heard about TranscribeMe and Scribie but the long application process and lack of regular work are two things that turned me off. But if there are better sites out there, I want to check them out.

I am interested in transcription sites.  I type pretty fast so that would be something that I am interested in trying. I will search for some sites unless anyone has any sites they could recommend for me.

I have also signed up for Transcribe me , but I have never tried it out. I think I may take a look at a few other sites before I attempt to work there, especially since there does not seem to be much work.

I will have to try some of these sites.  I can also type pretty fast, but don't have a whole lot of experience in transcribing.  I've done a little bit of work for Casting Words and Mturk but a lot of the quality is so poor, it's hard to hear what the speaker is saying.  Then it takes me awhile to make a few cents, because I have a hard time trying to figure out what they're saying.  So I will definitely have to try some of the other ones and see if they're worth it.  Thanks for sharing this great information!

Yeah, TranscribeMe is pretty decent if you manage to pass the exams. I passed the initial exams but then got stuck on one of the exams that came afterwards. I took it a couple of times but then gave up as I couldn't be bothered to keep doing it, haha.

Mturk is also nice because they pay around $25-$30 per transcribed hour. However their audio quality sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.
castingwords are a great site to be with..They are a good one to start out with as they pay around $30 an hour.

Thank you all for your helpful posts. The Workersonboardtalk.com forum is turning out to be a better goldmine than I initial thought it would be. It is amazing how after looking for work online for over a year, I have never heard of 90% of this transcription sites.
I really need to sit down and read EVERY SINGLE POST in this forum.  :)
