User Testing Jobs?
« on: October 12, 2014, 10:20:33 AM »
Hello,

I am interested in finding out about the good user testing jobs that are available (especially for persons located overseas/internationally).

Has anyone had any success with any of these type of sites? I have already checked out and currently signed up with usertesting.com, and it was a good decision. I am new there (under a month) and I don't log in everyday...compounded with the fact that I am not in the US, UK or Canada, but I have had 4 tests already (they pay $10 per completed test and pays exactly 7 days after, to the second....via pay pal).

It would be really nice to have even two good sites like this...even if its one test per week  :)

If you dont mind, which site do you use and how long does one test take? I have signed up with one but I have not done a test yet because I am never in complete silence at home. I am also not too sure if I would be comfortable with doing the test. Does someone stare at you via webcam while you are doing the test, well how does it work and what should we expect?

I've tried that site thanks to you and it's been working fine. I am still to register in mindswarms and userlytics, but this last one seems rather fishy, let's see what happens.

I've heard that usertesting jobs are really well paid, the problem is that there are tons of users wanting to make them, while there's not much offer. Plus, geographical reasons can't leave you with no jobs to do as well.

Hi Tasha,

I use usertesting.com and (usually) a test may lasts for 15-20 minutes. Although, in some cases it may last a bit longer (depending on how quickly you navigate and carry out the instructions). It is best if you have a quiet background when you are doing the test, because the customer would like to hear what you have to say, not the other members of your household  :).

No webcams are used with usertesting.com. You will need just a headset that has a microphone part for sound imput/recording. Which one have you signed up with?

I also use user testing but as of lightly I have not received any test.  I am now wondering if this is really worth my time it has been several weeks now and nothing.  I really enjoyed doing the few tests that I did with this company, I just do not understand why Iím not receiving any test now.

Are you leaving the browser window open at all times jade? Also, what rating do you have? Possibly only people with 4 and 5 stars rating receive the tests?

Are there any sites where you don't need extra equipment besides a laptop?  I'd love to get started but don't have money to buy a headset right now, I'm like, really struggling financially right now.

Hi. I will visit the site when I find the time. Thanks for this info. But to hear from a first-hand user, what tests are given usually and why do customers have to listen to you? Are they the ones rating you? What criteria do they rate you on? Thanks in advance for your response. :)

I did one test for them. I got one email for a test where I had to speak Portuguese. WTH ? I specifically wrote I am a native English speaker and that is the only language I am comfortable with. Since then I have not heard from them. For me it was a waste of time. Hopefully others have better results.

You need to go on a read about or watch one of their videos as to how it works...meaning how things are done. Much can be said but at the end of it all, you need to do your research as well....to ensure you understand and accept what really is....not just what someone says. Because everyone's experience is different.

That said, in answer to your questions:

What tests are given usually: It is a website review, therefore the tasks ranges from simply things as your preference of a website layout, trying a service, or written and verbal opinion to something.

Why do customers have to listen to you? Because they are the customers....that is the service and that they will be paying you the $10 to review their sites.

Are they the ones rating you?: Yes, they are the ones rating the review you give.

What criteria do they rate you on?: Whether or not you completed the requested task and whether or not your review was helpful to them....

Thanks in advance for your response. :) (You are welcome 8))

The website receives orders from various customers...it send out notification to its users/testers, who in turn, see if they qualify, then accept the test and do it.

Every test has its own individual prerequisite....not every notification that comes may be for you, based on the requirements (you receiving one that required you spoke Portuguese was obviously one you weren't qualified for, based on your tongue/language). I have received more than one notification and not qualified...its all based on the requirement and while some may not have much, some are quite specific...that is why we do the "Screener Test" and read the requirements BEFORE accepting it.

Because these tests are a "first come, first come" basis, I have clicked so fast when I am signed in and a notification came...only to have to reject it afterwards because it required that I am doing the test from a MAC, or located in Africa and on another occasion, that I am a Graphic Designer  :(...so although I had clicked first, I did not qualify and therefore could not click "accept test"....

I hope this helps...

Yes, I have read that user testing kind of jobs are well paid or pays higher than those other jobs online.
So it will be great if I could really try a user testing site that works well for those who love outside the US. I will checking out this thread to read more posts and get ideas of those sites.

I am signed up for mindswarms, but it's a big disappointment so far because I have applied for a couple of tests with no success, so a waste of my time.

I live in Canada and someone had wrote on my blog comments to try keeping the site signed in. A little ding noise comes up when test are available.e Yesterday I did a peek test which is 5 minutes or less of work for $3. And today a $10 dollar test! These were test with no screen survey so I instantly had access. I don't know if this will help everyone out but give it a shot and maybe you will get more test.
