Yep, that's how I do it as well, we need to have the page open at all times or else we won't get any tests at all, they disappear at the speed of light. :)

I live in Canada and someone had wrote on my blog comments to try keeping the site signed in. A little ding noise comes up when test are available.e Yesterday I did a peek test which is 5 minutes or less of work for $3. And today a $10 dollar test! These were test with no screen survey so I instantly had access. I don't know if this will help everyone out but give it a shot and maybe you will get more test.

Yes, that is true...that is how I usually get some success at it  :). Thank you for sharing WorkAtHomeGal, I hope folks will see that it does work. Some days may be crappy but some turn out good...and thats the quickest $10 anyone may get  :D

Are there any sites where you don't need extra equipment besides a laptop?  I'd love to get started but don't have money to buy a headset right now, I'm like, really struggling financially right now.

@dancinglady if you can possibly swing it, I'd buy something like this: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. This is like the one I use. A friend loaned me one to start, because, like you, I'm struggling financially, but I have found this type to be much more comfortable, and it seems to give a good quality recording. It's low cost, comfortable, and works for UserTesting.

You can buy a headset for as low as $2.30, I saw a couple of those headsets being sold in the supermarket. Or you can just use the headset of your phone.

I've used it before. It's difficult to nab opportunities because they're gone really fast, but when you do get into one the experience is super easy.
They normally email you. or you can wait on the website, it makes a sound when there is a test opportunity.

Has there been more opportunities for you folks, from User testing? I hope it has been more simpler to understand and use - this can really be fun, if we see it as just having basic computer/internet knowledge and speaking your mind, saying it as it is...no need to be afraid.

@Op : like all internet things it is not easy money. You have thousands of people waiting to review a single site. Naturally, they quickly fill up on reviews so most people don't get a chance. You would be lucky to review just one site, which earns you like $10. Again, that's if you are lucky.
Worth that few extra bucks though, they pay a good rate for what you review.

Wow, it's great to know that these user testing jobs are working pretty well on your end. I haven't tried them yet though, but I think I might consider signing up with them now. It seems like it's going to be lucrative enough.

I was all set to giver 'user testing' a shot, but then my life got crazy busy when I got a full time freelance job. I have never actually forgotten about it and would like to give it a go sometime in the future. i've simply parked the idea for now, and will no doubt come back it. I'm not sure about the test, though LOL

Theses comments etc were really helpful. I'm also signed up at UserTester and I have done 2 tests so far. I've received a lot of email notifications that tests are available via phone and computer but because of language I'm not qualified. And the latest notifications I've been getting is for an app that I already tested. So when they ask if I've heard of the app, I say yes and then they say I don't qualify. So that part is kind of frustrating. I will however try to keep the site open in my browser to see if I get more testing opportunities, I just hope that I qualify for them.

The tests seem to have really slowed down, at least on my end. Many of those I'm seeing these days seem particularly specialized, such as asking 3-4 questions prior to being disqualified. In many cases, it seems if they'd just asked the last question first, it would have saved me a lot of time, but I think they're trying to hide the actual purpose of the test because it seems many lie when answering, so they'll qualify for more tests and therefore make more money.

You might want to try Utest. They do not require special equipment for most test and quite a few of their tests can be done on your phone. You don't even always need a laptop. You can subscribe for the tests from your phone as well. I hope this helps.

I haven't received many tests lately from any company, just usertesting. Sure, I've been less time online because of the holidays, but maybe it has slowed down too.

I personally haven't gone through any website, but I have been contracted by webmasters directly to test their websites and the experience has been good.

I was required to test their stylesheet and other such code and after that the usual pay was around $15. The only part which I did not like about the job was that the report demanded a lot of time, but since the pay was around $15 I personally think its well worth it.

Gonna give those sites a try as well, if there are more opportunities on that site.

Usertesting sites are the best really, way better than writing in forums. Many times in 20 minutes I make $10 and it would take me a week or more to do this writing.
