Okay, I'm nosy! How much do you usually average per hour on mturk?

I just started and began doing the data entry receipts.  I calculated that even at my FASTEST speed I will make a whole $0.84 an hour!! Woo hoo!!! I'm still shocked that there are so many people on there that are willing to do this for such very  low pay?

Or maybe I am missing something? Is there another way to make more money on Amazon mturk?

Honestly, as crazy as this sounds, I would be willing to stick with it if it were as low at $3.00 an hour.

Thanks for any help!!!

1.I had quit it long time back
2.I can say its not about the rates but just that most tasks are easy to do and also we don't get many and that might actually answer your question on it.
I reckon it was low for me too and i was around the $2 mark..ahh..idk i forgot.

I also do not stick with this site because I cannot earn the amount that I would like to. That was even I would work too hard to reach at least 2 dollars per hour.
Maybe the tasks for non US members are too few or with too low rates. I do not know if there are more tasks or jobs there now and if the rate per task done improved too.

Okay, thanks for your response.  Are there other pay-per-task websites that pay more? Any that you would recommend? THANKS!

I was doing it for a bit, got a little over $1 and haven't logged in in a while now. I was making way less than $1 and hour so yeah, not really worth my time unless I have finished everything else I can do for the day.  I have constantly had issues with the site not loading fast enough for me so that was a real drawback and slowed me down tremendously.

I wasn't able to join mturk due to some level of bureaucracy, I still cannot fathom, but I was under the impression that people made decent money there...and by decent I mean decent for online, like $7 per hr???

I was going to give this a try and I had a account a while back. I went to this site and it said that my account was not in order. So I guess I am going to have to get this fixed before I can do anything more. I have never had this happen on any other web-site before so I guess we will see what happens.

I can't honestly say because I didn't stick with the site long enough to really gauge how long it would take to earn a decent amount of money. I just didn't think the site was worth the time invested in it. It was a bit subpar in terms of the amount of money you can possibly earn. I would rather spend my time on sites where I know I have a decent change to earn a bit of money hourly.

I signed up with it years ago and found it to be a waste of time then, it is worse now.  There are to many "bogus" jobs on there for one (people trying to get you to use their service or download their stuff because they are getting paid for you to do it) and two... they don't pay enough to make it worth your while.  It would be different if I was making at least 10 dollars an hour doing all that work, but your lucky if you make .10 an hour.  It's mainly a waste of time.

I think it really depends on the tasks that you do. I like transcription work, so that is what I focus on when I work on Mturk. Some of the transcription companies give bonuses so that's where you can beef up your earnings. I would suggest that you check out the mturklist.com so that you can see the highest paying tasks and the requesters turkopticon rating. That way you can decide if it is worth it to do the tasks.

Which transcription tasks do you recommend?  I have been having so much trouble finding ones that make sense and I can actually do successfully.

The companies that I do HITs for on Mturk are Crowdsurf, and Claritrans. The audio is going to be a crapshoot as to whether it is good quality or not, but that is true for any transcription company you work for whether it is on Mturk or not. You just have to develop an ear for it and that comes with practice.

I had a similarly unpleasant experience with trying to, and I had initially been under the same impression as well but more and more I'm hearing people with an experience like the OP. It doesn't seem that we're missing out on very much after all.

If you do your research you know from the door that you are not going to make a lot of money. It is really just pocket change unless you literally work all day. I like it though it's something to do when I have some free time. Mturk is way better than clickworkers I just deactivated my account with them and will never sign up again.

Hi. So Geminigal, if you are still a newbie in transcription, do you get penalized if you don't get the transcript right? Like what's the worst thing that can happen to you? How do you even go about practising it when it's already something that you have to perfect because it's a job? Is there a free training site for transcription work? Or do you get a leeway for being new? How much does a transcription work pay? Thanks!  :)
