Experience with HubPages
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:57:07 PM »
Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me their experiences in HubPages? I am from Asia, so, I have heard that you need to apply after 6 months with over 20-30 quality hubs in order to be accepted by google adsense. Can anyone here shed some light on this? Thank you

Yup, that's true. You need to have a lot of quality hubs within that time frame to apply for a Google Adsense account. Google's a bit strict with who gets an adsense account. Quality hubs getting good views or a lot of views will get you a GA account. What's good is that HubPages has so a lot of guidelines to get featured hubs so that you'll have a better chance of getting views and stuff.

Personally don't believe all the hype about making quick money. It takes time to get followers and also to advertise your hubs. I lost interest as I out work in and by the time I got Adsense I got tired of spending a day to write one hub with no guarantee of income so I use it as a platform. People do make passive income once they have built up their hubs but mainly "How to' or "10 ways to..' hubs do well and cookery type ones.

Hub Pages is supposed to be about quality and they are stricter, but I hate being forced to add a poll, table, video to get a higher Hub score when my hub doesn't actually need it.

Thanks for explaining this so well, Alex! This doesn't work for me at all. I was on Chatabout last week, and there was a huge discussion about Hubpages, with most people saying just how much hard work it is. What you've just done, is give me the true extent of just how much hard work it is. The platform doesn't work for me at all, and if you need money like yesterday; it's no good!

When I used to write HubPages I had already an Adsense account, so basically I just wanted to increase my Adsense revenue this way, as HubPages and Squeedo were good options for this purpose back in 2008, time at which Adsense also used to pay decently.

Today Adsense pays really low and HubPages is not as popular and profitable as it used to be, but still may worth the effort for those persons in need of having an Adsense account.

Hubpages is a really tough one for me as well. For starters in the state of Colorado where I live for some reason, some of the ads that can be placed on the pages for revenue, specifically the amazon ads
are prohibited from use.  I have no clue as to why.  Another problem is that placing articles on the website where they do not pay upfront for publishing your work creates very little incentive for me to
use their web space when there are other sites that not only pay for an upfront publication but also for hits on that article.  It is simply not a very good dregardlesseal for the writer.

It's one of the few revenue sharing sites that is still around and everyone is on there now so it is about marketing your work.

Before you could see it as somewhere you could write and get ad revenue, but both HubPages and most of the writers (regulars or the clique) seem to be writing for 'content' to get traffic.
That was never my sole intent, but looked at is as an extra platform for my work, but really I was 'encouraged' to make the hubs traffic and SEO friendly rather than just writing.

I stopped and haven't written there for a while and make about $0.05 a month!

I have already signed up with Hubpages before, and after some time, since I don't think it's going to work effectively on my end, I just decided to quit it for good. Well, if you have the patience and the determination, it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. Just don't get your hopes up. All the best! :)

It is very hard to earn from Hubpages and I have a Google adsense account. You have to know what the hot topics are at the moment, and your circle of friends have to be in big numbers in order for your hub to circulate. It is not a quick earning site, but a passive one.

I've been at HubPages for three years, but I very rarely write anything new there. I don't seem to be very good at finding popular topics, so over time most of my hubs have lost their featured status which doesn't help my income, but I still like the fact that some of those hubs go on earning without any added effort on my part. I sometimes wonder whether I could be earning a decent amount there now if I'd put more effort into it early on, but the quicker earnings at Bubblews made that a more attractive proposition.

Right now I'm concentrating most of my effort on BlogJob because it seems like it has the potential to bring in more income. The fact that BlogJob pays a small amount for activity as well as allowing members to earn through programs like AdSense makes it seem more attractive, but only time will tell whether I've made the right decision.

I think in the last few months HubPages has become saturated especially since the merger with Squidoo. You still have to market your hubs, there is less traffic and they prefer SEO friendly hubs so the site gets more hits.

It's less about what you want to write, as it used to be. Many people have moved to their own website now because of the conflict with google searches. It does still come up on a search with my pen name so that's worth it, but that's all the value I get out of it.

What you have heard about HubPages is true. It will take some work, and quality articles for you to qualify for a Google AdSense account. However, it will take longer than 6 months of contributing on HubPages to start earning a reasonable income. I've heard of writers taking 3 years or more to start earning income that is worth the effort. I guess, mileage varies for everyone. It will largely depend on the quality of articles and frequency in which you write them.

I don't like those revenue sharing sites. I think it takes too long to make money. I know some people who are patient and don't mind advertising their work, can do OK, but I really don't have time to promote my work. Just pay me for the work I do, please...that is all I want!

I have heard a lot of other writers say that it is impossible to make good money on HubPages because you have to produce content constantly and only 1 out of 25 will be a hit. I don't have time for that! I want work that I know will reward my efforts and not be so risky!
