Musicxray
« on: January 13, 2015, 01:06:17 AM »
Musicxray is a site that claims to match music with a list of artist you provide.  In return the site claims to pay you for listening to new music.  I have been with them for several weeks and changed my list many times as they suggested in emails.  Their customer support just spouts off the same canned email when you try to report an issue.  I believe they just don't have the songs for people to listen to but are afraid to admit they don't have anyone paying for their music to be listened to.  Has anyone experienced the same?  If not I suggest avoiding this site. It will just waste your time setting up your account for nothing.

Thanks for the ehads up. No I haven't tried MusicXray but it sounds similar to slicethepie, where you do music reviews. I haven't tried this either but heard it is pretty good. As anyone tried either of these? How do they compare with other sites?

I received an email a couple of days ago stating my account with Musicray has been suspended for inactivity. What? ???  I thought that Musicray was suppose to email me that there was music for me to listen to.  I went to my account and changed my genres (again) and yet received another email just yesterday stating my account had been suspended due to inactivity.  I just deleted my account all together. >:(

I have been a member of this site for a year and so far only got 2 songs to listen to. I am deeply disappointed since some people report many songs and good earnings. Maybe its true though they just don't have the songs for us.

For starters their business model does not make sense.  The way it seems to work is that artists and promoters pay to have their songs on the site.  That money is then divvied up to the site and all the people they have listen to the song.  Sounds great, right!  Not one what artist are really going out and paying people to just listen to their songs.

Next when you sign up to be a fan and get paid to listen to music.  They base it on a list of artist you provide or your data from a music streaming app on facebook.  After hours of changing lists, building my playlist on facebook through spotify.  I was unable to get any songs from Musicxray to listen to.  I went to their forum to see if anyone was experiencing the same thing.  I found many and Misicxray's suggestions.

After attempting all of their suggestions multiple times I thought maybe there was an issue with the site.  I sent them an email explaining I have attempted the suggestions and it was still not working.  What did I get the same cut and paste response they posted to their forum.

Several emails later with their customer "NO" support.  I have decided that it is a waist of time.  Not only should you as an online money maker avoid this site.  So should the artist.  I know many personally and they work way to hard on their craft to pay some site to let people listen to their song for nothing in return.

If  you had a different experience please let me know.

@kittyworker it's not similar to slicethepie, because you are not writing a review.  When you are with slicethepie you write a review that the artist will receive.  If I am an artist I am at least getting feed back for what I pay for.

The concept itself seems very wonky to me. Paying you to listen to artists you already listen to? This sounds to good to be true, and I doubt they are getting money from the artists for using their service and promoting their songs.
This is pretty strange, though. I wonder what their purpose is behind all of this. Thanks so much for the heads though. I've already learned from Slicethepie that going to music sites as a way to earn money is not a very wise decision.

I have to agree with Machmax. The idea behind Musicxray sounds too good to be true. Why would an artist pay to use the service when there are free and more well known options? Why would you get paid just for listening to music? Those were just a few red flag thoughts that came to my mind while reading this thread.

Regardless, Musicxray sounds shady. Thanks for the warning.

I've seen a lot of bad reviews for music xray.  I think they started out good, but are no longer doing all that well.  It does sound too good to be true, which is why I heeded the bad reviews I saw and didn't join.  I did join slice the pie, a similar site, but have not been successful with that either.

I actually couldn't remember signing up with them, but I have already read some negative reviews about this site. If you really value your time and effort, then I guess don't bother working for them or you will just regret it.

I saw someone raving about musicxray on a forum (maybe here, not sure) a while ago, so I went to sign up, but it required Facebook. Since I don't hook my social media accounts with my online work accounts, I backed out of it, because there was no other option. From what y'all are saying, I'm glad I didn't connect them with my social media. Maybe they're just collecting emails/PayPals/Facebook accounts for some reason?

I've had the exact same experience with MusicXray . . . I received an email very recently telling me my account had been deactivated due to inactivity, and that I needed to log in and reactivate it.  I will say, a few days after reactivating, I did receive one song and then shortly after it was deactivated again.  I had never had this happen before and did not know what to make of it.  I'd much rather receive a music selection to listen to, than a deactivation notice.  Really MusicXray?  If they would send the music the account would not be inactive.

I've been a member of this site for a loooong time and have yet to make over $2.00! I don't know why, I've changed the genres I like and the artists every couple of months hoping to get a song, but no luck. They just sent me an email that said I was inactive and my account was suspended. How am I inactive if I never have anything to review. I've given up on this site all together. I hope others have better luck and experiences than I've had with it  :P

Maybe the premise of MusicXray has played out.  The concept just may not be feasible in today's music realm.  I think I've made all of fifty cents since becoming a member earlier this year.  At this rate, I'll never meet the cash out limit.  I'm not sorry I signed up and it doesn't cost anything to keep the account.  Maybe, they will have some spontaneous activity down the road.

Well, the musicxay doesn't sound like a site worth joining at all. I did make some money at Slicethepie until they arbitrarily decided to suspend my account. It is good to have this forum so we know which sites we should avoid out there. It is helpful to have an idea of what we need to do. It is really good to know some of these things.
