I've always been interested in selling for a company like Avon since I'm really into cosmetics and other beauty products, but I'm just such a shy person! I feel like to be a salesperson I would have to be an extrovert and be very outgoing. Has anyone that has a shy personality like me found success in the Avon business? I'm very good with follow through, organization, etc. it's just that I'm so shy that I worry it would get in the way when relating to new customers. Any advice and tips would be great. Thank you!

I considered myself shy when I sold Avon years ago.  The thing about selling is you take on a totally different personality.  Your confidence just surfaces.  Even better the knowledge that you have about your products and use of them are for sure a plus when you're in sales.  Try selling to close friends and family for a start until you feel you're ready to jump in.

In your case, I think the best thing for you to do is to just sell your products/items online. I just don't know if Avon would permit such a thing, but that might work for you. You can just use social media platforms to advertise your products, and just deliver their orders to their houses.

I have seen that online allow some representatives to setup an online store under the main Avon domain, but this options seems to depend upon your country of residence.

However selling online, via eBay, or announcing in classified ads is certainly good options for the shy people or those persons with a limited number of friends, family members and acquaintances.

Personally, I have not sold Avon, but I used to sell fashion jewelry for a company that had a sales system similar to both Avon and Tupperware.

While I was then a bit shy, my main problem was not having friends, family members or acquaintances to get them enrolled or buying at least my merchandise, so that I created my own sales system by taking from those catalogs a selection of products that I put of for sale advertising on newspapers (there was not Internet yet) and printing flyers to hand out around the neighborhood.

This way I got people calling up to buy my merchandise or enroll in the company under me.

I know someone who is a male and took some time to get success and it does take time to get confidence and also the person needs to, first of all, try it out on the people they know and can also try doing it online from a place that allows it. I reckon that it is interesting to see what can be accomplished by doing this work and also a person can make money but should view it as contract and need to be good at book keeping as you would need to give the company a percentage and take your income out as well. It is nice to see how the work can work out and also a person would need to try and make better choices in the way they do the job and also make changes which can help them earn more in the process.

I believe you will evolved in your field once you give it some time! I am also an introvert person, but working and selling my service to make tips become somewhat second nature.

@MrsJones is right, you take on a totally different personality to suit your situation!

I like Avon products and sold it a bit in high school as my Aunt was a seller. The problem is that I don't really interact with people much in the community as I don;t have a 'regular job." The community I live in is fairly anti social as well...so my chances of interacting with people and being able to sell the products are kind of limited. I think if you have a ready made customer base you should go for it.

I'm not sure if I'd sell Avon these days because I think the market is saturated and it still has a lot of negatives like all MLM style companies. I'm not against them because I really like the products but I think it is difficult to establish yourself as a salesperson for Avon.

There are some good things to sell even if you are shy, I would do more research on different products and companies in your area that may have more opportunities for growth.

I feel like these days even if you're not super social then it's a bit easier to sell products - I see a lot of people promoting their home businesses on Facebook, Instagram and so forth, so using online social media could be a way to get word out about what you're selling!

My sister sold Avon for a few years by doing it this way. Customers would email her with their order, and she was able to take care of everything online. I believe the customer could even pay her online (like through Paypal). All she had to do was drop off the orders when they were shipped. It was pretty successful for her. Customers can even ask you questions through email/site. Also, advertising on FB might be beneficial to grow your business and get new customers. That may take some of the anxiety off of  face-to-face sales. Good Luck.

I think for this type of thing, it takes all sorts, because I've bought Avon products from them. I agree with MrsJones, if you have enough hunger in your belly for it, know your products like the back of your hand and deliver outstanding customer care; the rest will follow. I'd also say start small and try selling to a small circle of friends and family, while you build your buisness and I strongly believe that as you start to sell, your confidence will also build and soar. Good luck with that :)

I've tried selling a couple different products (Arbonne & Mary Kay). It's one of the businesses that you literally get what you put in. It doesn't matter if your shy, or outgoing, all that matters that you're willing to put the time and the effort into making it work. I feel like consistency plays the biggest role into whether or not you'll be successful in those type of business models. You will have to sell it, but like others have said online selling is definitely something you can take advantage of. Best of luck to you!!

The great thing about selling Avon and other cosmetics is that you meet some of the nicest women on this earth doing it. You can be shy and still have a successful business because the more you get out there and put yourself out there, the more you will come out of your shell. I used to be extremely shy and eventually got more comfortable with people when I entered the workforce. You can do it and I bet you will shine. The key to selling is to get more customers and so you will need to make sure your customers refer you to even more customers while you are out there selling.

It's possible to be successful, as long as you put in the time, know about the products, and show enthusiasm about them. Pretty much everyone knows about Avon already, so in some cases, the products will sell themselves. If someone's used to using a certain product and likes it, they will seek it out, and if you're nearby, you could benefit from that. I've seen Avon books and cards posted at the post office and other places locally. I drop my business cards off in those places, too, and usually pick up a catalogue while I'm there. I've ordered Avon online before, and have never even met the seller.

If you want or need to do some sort of in person presentation, you can practice ahead of time, so you'll be more comfortable. I was pretty shy in the past, but had to do so many presentations in school and work that I've gotten over that, but I did a lot of practice ahead of time so I'd look and feel more comfortable, since that makes your presentation more convincing.

When I lived in Nebraska, someone was smart enough to start store in the mall.  While that isn't great for a start up because it's expensive.  Perhaps you can rent a kiosk in the mall and sell that way.  Having people come to you to try and buy items might make you less shy than trying to find customers on your own.  You might try creating a website to sell it so you can minimize actually meeting people.  As you sell more, you will become more confident.
