Frustrating!
« on: February 18, 2015, 03:41:51 PM »
I'm new to surveys.  I work from home so I thought that surveys might be a good way to spend my 'down time', while earning a bit of money on my breaks.  Good in theory.

So, I signed up for quite a few, and have been getting lots of invitations by email to complete the surveys.  However, I've been finding that I spend most of my time starting them, only to be screened out.

I'm finding myself becoming increasingly frustrated with the whole process.  Although I am making a little money here and there, the amount of time it takes to start ten surveys and only complete one, makes me wonder if it's all worth it.

Do others find this?  What percentage of surveys do you find that you're actually able to complete and get paid for?

I also tried the survey thing and didn't find it was worth my time. I mean, getting 3 bucks for a 20 minute survey sounds promising, but at the end of the day I found most of my time taking surveys was spent looking for ones I could actually take. So what looks like it pays almost ten bucks an hour really pays a lot less.

It is it and miss, but these days the screening process is taking much longer than it should which is why people get put off. I used to get the odd survey for a few dollars for 10 minutes and that was great, but then it also depends on the time of day. Sometimes the quota is full. On Inbox dollars, they sometimes get surveys for $5 for 15 minutes and I did qualify once, so sometimes you are lucky.

Survey screenouts really are frustrating. These days, I only use survey sites which pay points on disqualification, then at least I've had something, no matter how small, for my efforts. Sites which pay on disqualification include Gift Hulk, Swagbucks, Zoombucks and some Insta GC surveys. Does anyone have any others to add?

I have never been a fan of surveys because there's limited work to do, and also most of the paid-to-survey sites don't accept users from my country. So eventually, I have now given up on them.

Surveys are a huge waste of time. I think you should count your losses and give it up. I used to try and would get the 'not qualified' thing all the time. Focus your attention on tangible ways of making income.

I started doing surveys years ago, and back then, the "qualification" process was strictly demographic - like, age, sex, location, etc.  It would take a couple of minutes and you would know if you had gotten it or not.  But I've noticed lately, they ask all kinds of "survey" questions, like who your insurance company is, have you heard of these companies, what do you think about them, would you recommend them, etc, then 15-20 minutes into, you get disqualified.  That really ticks me off.

Because of that, I've pretty much stopped taking surveys.  Where before, I was able to average about $3 a hour, now I'm lucky to make $1 a hour, with all the frustrations of answering the same questions over and over.  One site I do like is E-Poll.  You get invites, and I qualify for every survey they send me.  They don't pay the greatest, maybe 50 cents to a dollar, but I know that my time isn't going to be wasted.  Another great survey site is Pinecone, if you can get in.  Again, they send you invites, and I've always gotten every survey they send me.  Their surveys are always worth $3 and take about 20 minutes.  They are mostly product testing, so often you'll get a product to test out of it every once in awhile and a follow-up $3 survey.  The only problem with these two sites is that you'll be lucky to get 2 or 3 surveys a month.

I've also found with swagbucks, if you've put a fair amount of time into a survey and get disqualified after answering survey-type questions, if you contact them, they almost always pay you for it.  So, it's worth doing some of theirs.  I've also found that I have better results with Opinion Outpost - I qualify for maybe 30-40% of theirs.

I gave up on surveys for this very reason. I never qualified for any surveys after spending nearly 30 mins. answering questions. It was a huge waste of time. I can't imagine how people make money from survey sites, but a lot of people seem to be successful with them. It just isn't for me so I no longer bother with any of them.

Another thing I've found really frustrating with surveys - Each survey company has a minimum cash out - usually $20 or so.  When I was really doing surveys, I could earn about $7-10 a day, which was great, but that was over about 20-30 survey sites.  I would be lucky to make $2-3 a week at each site, so it would take forever to cash out.

On paper, I was making $300 a month, but if I counted the actual checks (or paypal) coming in, I would be lucky to get $100-150.  I had one site that after 3 years, I still didn't have enough to cash out.

I also found out the hard way, there were a couple of sites that had a high cash out, like $50, but I was making $10-15 a week on them, so I kept plugging away, until .... I would have about $45 and then all of a sudden, I didn't qualify for a single survey anymore.  Ughh!!

I gave up on surveys a couple of years ago.  I got tired of the "you don't qualify" messages.  I think the people that are still touting surveys as a great way to earn money are really stretching the truth.  I would never tell people to try surveys to make money.  There are other ways that are a little more reliable.

Surveys really can be frustrating and certainly aren't to everyone's liking. I do a lot of them and whilst I reckon I DNQ for around 60% of the studies I click through to, I minimize the frustration by sticking to survey sites which pay points on disqualification. That way, I know I've got something for my time, no matter how small.

Yeah it seems to be an ongoing issue. This is why I only do Web Perspectives, TellWut and Pinecone Research. I am sure there is other good sites too but I don't want to spend a lot of time being screened out either.

Yes I think it is a lot of hard work, on surveys all the time. I think you will just have to work hard and perservere, and I think that after a while you would make so much off of working here and there because at the end of the day it all addds up and you could end up with a reasonable amount of money.

Used to happen to me all the time so I just gave and did some alternatives. They are simply not worth the time and they can be very, very boring.

I don't bother with surveys now, because I was finding that the majority of them would have a survey to see if you qualified for the main one, and then you probably wouldn't, so it was a complete waste of time. I now only do things that I know are definitely going to get paid - because I was fed up of wasting my time with things that got no money out of them.
