Personal calls
« on: February 28, 2015, 10:29:27 AM »
I'm ashamed to admit, I'm quite a nosey person at times, which makes listening to personal calls very interesting to me!  You don't hear them very often, which is lucky, because when I do get one, I can't help myself but listen to it the whole way through, which wastes a lot of time.

Sometimes they make me laugh out loud.  The employees working at these places obviously forget that their calls are being recorded.

Is it just me, or do you listen to the personal calls just to be nosey and for the laughs?  It does break up the monotony of it all.

Even sometimes during transcripts I notice very interesting or bad talk happening. It is funny though I all the time catch employees swearing or while a customer is on hold they may swear also. I shouldn't say its funny but hearing it sort of is. Reminds me when I worked at the call center. I loved listening to my calls and then I could see what the customer was doing while I had them on hold. Some were silent others were rude as ever.

I do! I know I'm a bad person, but I find it entertaining.

I had a great call the other day on one of the car dealership categories and the salesman started telling the caller off for wasting his time. She'd rung up to complain about a car she was thinking of buying, trying to get the bloke to jump through hoops for her and give her a discount. It was great.

I'm happy to hear that it's not just me that finds it amusing.  It is funny that the callers never seem to realise that the person taking their call can still hear them while they're on hold.  I also used to work at a call centre, and used to find this hilarious.  You had to grow a thick skin to work there, listening to a constant barrage of abuse from customers. I much prefer just categorising the calls - no direct customer contact.  Of course, the pay is a tiny fraction of what you get paid to work in the actual call centre, but thems the breaks!

I have only tried to listen to the calls in Humanatic when I was trying to learn how to distinguish the different types of calls. But I never really tried to work there because I found the pay too low, I think my time would be better spent in posting. But to answer the question, I don't really find it interesting to listen to the personal calls of other people unless it's someone that I know and I want to know what it is they're discussing. But the personal call of a stranger? Nope.

It depends on my mood, but yeah sometimes I do listen to their personal conversations. I always think it's funny when I'm listening to a conversation with a customer, or they're on hold, and the customer gets all mad or is having a conversation about something so unrelated to someone else, stuff like that. Sort of entertaining.

I personally don't really want to listen to that bit because I feel like it's a waste of my time. I wish they'd just edit it out somehow. What annoys me is that I can't NOT listen because I have to be alert and stay on the ball. I haven't been back there for a good two months because I honestly can't drum up enough patience and enthusiasm LOL That job is so easy, bring and so exhausting all at the same time.

I think one has to be conscious that it is work, but it can be easy to become distracted. There are calls that are interesting and leave you wondering what next? We all sometimes want to know a bit more than we should.

I find people fascinating and would probably listen.  It's like only hearing an episode in the middle of a TV show in the distance without knowing the characters or the storyline or what they're doing.  My love of fiction writing would probably consider it a challenge (to mentally write background and action for the conversation) or even a new way to look at dialogue writing.  I don't care enough to get wrapped up in other people's drama but sometimes it is interesting.

Well honestly to me I think it's a bit strange that your'e listening to other people's calls all the time. And a bit silly instead of working to make a living, your'e wasting your precious time listening to other people's calls It's really sad, some of the things people would do out of boredom
