Datacoup no longer accepts international users
« on: March 12, 2015, 08:54:31 AM »
Here's what they said about it:

"International Users: As we mentioned in a Jan 2 email to the userbase, users outside the US, since Jan 2, have had their data purchased far less frequently than those inside the US.
Given that we are a US-based startup, focused on initially courting US-based data purchasers, we can't continue to fund the purchase of data from non-US users at this time. If you are outside the US and have accrued earnings, we are exploring non-Paypal options for paying out earnings you've accrued. When we find the best solution, we will let you know the next steps. We have full intentions of expanding overseas in the future, but for now we need to focus on our core market and continue to develop the model on our home turf."

Disappointing. I just found that website a week ago and now it looks like all my time there's been wasted

Thanks for the heads up! But I never even heard of this website, or know what they do! Good thing I won't be mourning another potential site slipping through my fingers. It does appear that this year is an especially tough year for WAH Online workers, particularly those of us outside of the US/UK/EU/Canada.

Yeah, being in South East Asia sucks especially, no business is looking at the demographic here

I haven't heard of this website yet, but thank you for sharing this information. I'm in Asia and it somehow frustrates me whenever sites say that they don't accept users from other countries aside from US, UK, and Canada. It feels like racism. But I know they're just following the system.

It sounds like they previously had international workers and owed them money before they had even figured out how to pay them AND they still owe them money.  That's not a good track record.  It also makes them sound like they're still not sure of themselves, which does not give me much confidence.  Even though I'm a US based user, those things would make me hesitate to sign up with them.

That may explain why they've now blocked the international workers, to avoid paying them! But you're right Jinny; who in their right minds would sign up with them? Because if they can do that to one demographic, what's to say they won't suddenly do the same thing to others?! I'm glad I never knew about them until now!

Like you, I haven't heard of this website and what it does or how to make money from it yet. But it is a good thing that we have this forum to find out the potential sites to earn pennies. I have learned quite a few more websites to check out!

So actually anyone working there and making money with it? I was checking the homepage, but I really didn't get what that is about. Selling my data?

Like many others who have already commented, this is the first time I hear of Datacoup. Oh well, it's a pretty common albeit disappointing occurrence to come across opportunities which don't accept international users, or used to accept them but have now stopped.

I hope that more countries will start developing more home grown online opportunities, so that we don't have to rely solely on US-based sites.

I've never known this site at all but it seems obvious that they are trying to avoid/delay payment of non-US members by saying that they are looking for non-Paypal means to pay them. Why look for non-Paypal means when these people most probably have been receiving their earnings through Paypal? Well, I guess, it's another one that got away for international workers. They did mention that they are a startup company so most probably, it is barely surviving.

I have done some research about this DataCoup, and from the looks of the site, they gather your personal data so they can sell everything about you to companies in exchange for cash.  In short, it is a data broker.  I wouldn't necessarily label the site as being discriminatory against non-US users, but right now they want to focus on their core consumers first.  After all, it is a decision of the site owner as long as it is made in good faith.  However, Jinny and joanmich make good observations as well - if it wanted to pay its international users prior to shutting its doors to them, why use other payment processors other than PayPal?  And why did the site suddenly decide to block applications for international users?  The site shouldn't have expanded to international users when it first started.

I couldn't agree more.  If only countries would explore their homegrown opportunities, they may have a better chance of surviving.  Unfortunately though, the reality is that there are countries which are dependent on others for their own survival.
