Chances are high that you deserve a ban if you receive one, because they'll often resort to a low rating before outright banning you. That means that you've done something particularly egregious that the forum owner finds unacceptable.

I'd like to believe that is true, but how do you account for the fact that Rosyrain was banned from a site before she had a chance to post anything there? The only consolation I can see to that is that there was no opportunity for the forum owner to give her a bad rating first.

I got banned when I was new to PL as well. I thought "no off topic posts" meant not straying from the topic, I didn't know that it meant the off topic section of the forum. I got a 1 rating for that too. The admin never replied when I contacted him. I even posted again in his forum even if I don't earn points to compensate for the mistake. He never changed his rating.

Wow that forum owner sounds like a mega douche. I sincerely hope you're no longe subscribed there? Man, it's these things that kinda piss me off about PL. Ryan seems very adamant about his rating system and he even says to EXPECT bad unreasonable ratings once in a while. That's crappy

That forum is actually extinct already, it was a long time ago, and come to think of it, since I can still post in there, I was just revoked, not banned. It was a gaming forum and the admin's occupation was a student, since I checked his profile. I think Ryan just wants to please the ones paying him so that they will continue to use PL, because if they get pissed, then his business suffers.

I have been banned from a couple of different sites since I started using Postloop. In one case, I signed up for an account with a forum and then left on a trip for a couple of days and did not have a chance to upload an avatar or make any posts. Next thing I know, I was banned from that site. There were a couple of others that I am not clear why I was banned from them because I only made a post or 2 and had not communication with the admin. If they are going to go as far as to ban someone from their site, they should at least comment on why so the person would know. I do not sweat it though and just move on to the next forum,

Sometimes I worry that I might get banned/revoked from a site because I take long periods of inactivity due to real life, but I've never personally been banned yet soo. It seems the forums I'm subscribed to generally have nice owners, or ones who don't meticulously monitor their users' activities. I don't know the average amount of website people are subscribed to but I'm only subscribed to 7 and only 1 or 2 are ever consistently online, which might have to do with them not expecting so much activity. Sometimes, there's not much for me to answer anyways so I end up lurking and maybe post 1-5 posts a week.

I've always tried to follow the forum owner's rules but a large part of it is just fostering activity, I believe, so if a user is deemed to not be contributive, some owners don't care to ask someone to change how they post and would rather revoke their rights because there posters to take their spot. As long as you don't receive a bad rating, there shouldn't be that big of an issue, right?

Well, obviously, but Ryan should also know that a business also suffers when the contributors leave...I still can't believe there's no real competitor to PL that offers a better rating system, so I guess we're stuck with it for now.

I have been banned once, but the term is "revoked." I also got a rating of 1 due to that, which pretty sucked because it caused my overall grade to drop down. The forum owner never replied with a reason why he/she banned me.

I take it I was banned or my subscription revoked because all of a sudden I couldn't log in, yet I was still subscribed! I tried to unsubscribe and subscribed afresh as per Ryan's suggestion, it didn't work. In the end I gave up and moved on. It was so funny because I saw a few of the forum owner's posts, more like the ramblings of a mad man, and they were not much cop. Way below par, to put it politely. I remember some people even giving HIM pointers on how to improve his writing skills LOL I closed that door and kept moving, no skin off my nose really :)

Maybe owners use it incorrectly and ban all users because they don't want them to post, but wants to keep the site listed and only have certain posters? I see many complain they like some posters but not others and they are told to revoke them if they don't like them.

I've never been banned from a forum on Postloop but I was a member of a forum that got banned from postloop, lol
The most that has ever really happened was that I was automatically unsubscribed from a forum because I hadn't used the site in a while.

I think that if they ban users that should at least give an indication as to why the ban happened. Seems like an abuse of power at times ya know.

I have never been banned, however I have been unsubscribed to the site because I haven't used it in a while. They subscribed be again a few days later and I made sure I made some post so I would not be unsubscribed again. Maybe you were banned because of the content you wrote. I would definitely double check and find out why you were banned.

In this case, this owner wanted to keep a certain number of people and thought it was better to do that than revoke them and then get lots of questions.  I do think it was underhand as they said they wanted to use less points, but too many people had signed up and points went too quickly.

Owners should have the guts to say if someone is not right and then let them leave without drama. For those owners who give out ratings of 3.5 and less I would consider that a revoke more or less. I got that rating once and told the owner I wanted to stop posting, but they wouldn't say who they were. Why would they want me to carry on with a low rating?

I haven't been banned yet but one of the forums I joined recently is now showing up as banned. I figured it was something the forum owner did that caused PostLoop to ban them rather than anything I did wrong. At least, that's what I am hoping is the case!

I wasn't banned on any forum either, I guess one would have to break forum rules to make that happen. Have you tried to contact the administrator?

I know what you mean, Alex. I thought it was a very cowardly thing to do, but hey, it was his forum. I guess it's his prerogative to do whatever he wishes with it, including unceremoniously dumping loyal writers out of the blue without any explanation   :)

I have never been banned, but I always worry about it. I mean everytime that you join a new forum it can happen. There are some admis out there that are mean and will ban you for no reason. They can do what they want, and they can really ruin your score for postloop. That has always scared me and that's why I always get nervous when I have to make new posts or sign up for a new forum.

I once got a rating of two and had my subscription canceled from a forum, but I was still able to post.  It was a forum about revolvers and I made the statement that one advantage of revolvers is that they are not used by mass murderers and do not have that type of negative stigma.  I also talked about how reliable they are.  Apparently the site was popular with people who thought mass killings of little children (this was right after Sandy Hook) are fine asw long as they get to keep their guns.  Some people are just intolerant of anyone who thinks differently from them.
