How much time on a fiverr gig?
« on: May 14, 2015, 09:03:42 AM »
How much time are you willing to spend on a basic fiverr gig?

The buyer pays $5-$5.50 (depending whether they pay from their balance or via paypal) but after fiverr fees and paypal fees, that's only actually $3.92 for the seller.  I personally try to keep them at 15-20 minutes or less but I see a lot of sellers that are offering things that have to be taking them an hour or more for the basic gig fee.  That doesn't seem very practical given the small amount of pay.

I have never understood at all how Fiverr works, but I did understand they began to take a big bite of the earnings.

Have never used it, but what you are saying confirms what I said in other post here; sites likes this are only making cheaper freelance jobs in the knowledge people will do whatever to get a quick buck, even tedious jobs that take more time that it is really worth.

Practical? It isn't really, but should even be offensive. No quality nor professional job should be offered at such ridiculous pricing.

For some gigs, it works great.  For instance, I have one gig about drawing a message or simple logo or simple photo in the sand.  I give myself 7 days to finish them and I go to the beach anyway 2-3 times a week.  Each thing takes me a few seconds, I snap a picture and do the next.  Fast and easy.

For forum posts, I'm doing 15 forum posts now for that 3.92, which is better than the pay on postloop.  I started out doing 25 for that amount and gradually backed down to fewer once I had good reviews.

For article writing, I'm not willing to write very much for that amount so I'm often undercut.  The funny part is that some people who didn't pick me to do the article end up coming to me later to edit/rewrite whatever spun or poorly written crap someone else gave them.  A few have even said straight out that my rates seemed so much higher which was why they didn't pick me in the first place.  In the end though, paying once for writing and again for editing, they paid much more than if they had just chosen me first.

My tarot gig, I do a single card reading for a focused question for one gig with extras for more cards.  It takes me less than 10 minutes for the basic gig.  i haven't gotten a lot of those yet but it's new for me and may improve with time.

I think you definitely have to be smart with the gigs. I have two on there at the moment. One is broadly about career coaching with add ons of reviewing a CV and/or a cover letter, and that can take quite a while if I put the effort into it.

The other one is basically a white paper that I wrote out, which has had a couple of buyers. This is the one I want to see traction on because the job has already been done and I'm simply sending on the piece of work to each buyer. It's also better than trying to sell it as a book on Amazon - as I don't have a following I think it would be hard to sell any volume at all, unless it was dirt cheap. Even then Amazon's cut makes it less justifiable.

I know what you mean, Jinny. I told my husband about Fiverr and suggested he could do some Graphic Design gigs on there. He took one look at the site and decided it just wasn't worth his time. He just doesn't believe that $3 per logo is rewarding enough for him.

For my only active gig, I review books, and I usually get it done in 1-2 days. Luckily, the books have so far been novellas that I can read in no time.

I don't really take note of the time, I take note of the quantity of my posts. It takes me a week to deliver my work, so I never really placed too much focus on time since I don't need to rush myself to deliver it.

Time is money so it's really not worth spending any longer than 20-30 minutes on a Fiverr gig. Especially as the fees eat up over a dollar of your payment. It's quite a misleading company name really...

Yes, it may seem like fiverr doens't pay much especially after the fees are taken out. But some have managed to make a good income there. I know someone who is managing to build themselves up on fiverr they offer an interview type blog for authors.  Their feeling is that they use to do this for free wihen they first started the blog website, so now they can do this and earn some money doing it.  So, perhaps this is one of the best ways to use Fiverr, offer something there that you may have at one time done for free online.  For example posting on forums or even blogging for that matter.  There is money to be made on Fiverr it just comes down to the gig being offered and taking the time to build up the reputation.

I would personally give it 10-20 min tops. Anything under the minimum wage limit is not worth your time in any way, shape, or form.

I do have a Fiverr gig up but made no sales yet. I wouldn't want to spend anymore then 30 minutes at most on gig if I could. Just to get money I would probably spend up to an hour if I had to for good feedback.

You know I try to spend about the same amouunt of time that you do. I used to feel bad for it, but I don't anymore. There isn't much money that you are making from that gig. I can see that when I get online that there are people who are offering something crazy like you said. I mean I just wouldn't be able to do something like that. For the little amount of money it's not worth it. But hey some people will do anything for that money.

Most of my gigs take an hour or more.  I  don' t think that that is the smartest way to do things but on the plus side I tend to get returning customers.  This year my workload is on a major decrease.

I imagine people spend the least amount of time on gigs which is why I wouldn't buy any and why I wouldn't offer any.

I think the concept works well for ready made things or something that can be adjusted like a Amazon book cover with just a name and title added, but you get what you pay for.

I feel the same way, which is why I'm impressed that y'all posting here seem to give good value for the money spent. There are some things I can think of off the top of my head that I might pay $5 for, but honestly, there isn't much I'd do for it, that immediately comes to mind. That's why I need to peruse the site and see what i'm missing out on that I could potentially do to make a few dollars here and there. If it's something I'm already doing for free, or wouldn't mind doing at a low wage, maybe I'll consider creating a gig or two, although since I'd be starting out brand spanking new, it might be for nothing.

I would say that 15 minutes spent on a Fivver task is a good and effective 15 minutes. If it takes you much longer than that, then you're losing out on time basically. 20 minutes is decent, but I'd say you need to find a better line of work if it takes you much longer than that. Five bucks isn't much, and you get paid even less in most cases, although you can increase the earnings with add-ons, and that can make for some nice spending money if you don't wind up spending much more time on gigs.
