There are several new players on the market, but I have used Smashwords and KDP and they are both okay. I would say KDP has more prestige as you can get an Amazon authors page which is what I wanted that you can link  to everything. That was my main reason for KDP, but I find the terms and conditions very restrictive.

Smashwords has a better payment structure and also automatically distribute to other sellers like Scribd and B & N though the formatting is very specific. I managed it by myself, but it does take time.

I self-publish with Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kobo. I've found that this works pretty well for me. Smashwords lets you create your own coupons which I find to be pretty cool. If you do publish your book at more than one place, keep in mind that (the last time I looked at it) Amazon's KDP Select program requires the ebook to be exclusive to Amazon for a period of time. KDP Select has certain rules which is why I decided not to bother with it. Also, Smashwords automatically sends your book to other platforms like itunes and amazon. You would need to uncheck the conflicting platforms on Smashwords.

I had this inquiry about where I should publish my book when I get ready to release it by my birthday next year and I figured that I would just use multiple publishers so that I can make it available to more people.
I decided on going with publishing through 4 different vendors
Amazon
Google Play
iBooks
LuLu.com

I think this is sufficient even though it will take more work.

Personally I'd porbably not use KDP because of the exclusivity, but how does it work publishing thru different platforms?  You get an ISBN for your book per publisher so wouldn't your book have different ISBNs?  Idk.  I'm just curious because I'm looking for a good way to publish and like I mentione I don't want to use KDP.  I've thought of Createspace and Smashwords.  I guess I'd like to use a publisher that will allow my book to be avaialble thru many vendors (mainly Amazon, B&N, and my own site).

Apart from Amazon Kindle and Amazon CreateSpace, there are numbers of self-publishing market, for intance, Lulu, Smashwords etc. However, Amazon with its Kindle for ebook publishing and CreateSpace for Print On Demand book publishing rule the self publishing market. Other self publishing marketplace might be good, however, Amazon is #1.

Amazon is undoubtedly the best company for self publishing books. You can choose to publish ebook or print book through Amazon publishing program. Good think about Amazon is it is the biggest online store. You can also promote your book on Amazon for free as well as by paying small fees. Publishing on Amazon is free. Amazon gives up upto 70 percent royalty on ebooks.
