Crowdsurf Moving From Mturk To Upwork
« on: August 15, 2015, 01:49:52 AM »
For better or worse, Crowdsurf (the audio transcription requester) is moving to Upwork from Mechanical Turk. I'm not following them over there because I'm not high on the Upwork platform, which used to go by another name. What do you guys think of the move? If you're not familiar with Crowdsurf, then I don't know what you were doing on MT all this time because Crowdsurf was one of the higher paying requesters based on volume.

I think this is a good news for me if Upwork accepts international users. I am not sure with how their system works though, I think I would have to research a bit about them first. I am not actually eligible to work for MechanicalTurk since it's strictly for U.S. citizens only.

I too doubt it'll accept international workers because MTurk doesn't. I've heard it used to, a long time before I started online work. But I was too late to the party. I'm guessing this will be good news to those that are eligible to join. We can only watch from the sidelines :(

Upwork does accept international workers but it looks like Crowdsurf is not going to be switching all their work to Upwork after all. It looks like they ran into issues with the 300 limit. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with this situation.

Actually, Crowdsurf has put moving on hold for and for the time being they are still on MTurk. Something went south with Upwork and the last word from Crowdsurf was that they are checking into other platforms. That was a  month or two and and we haven't heard anything since. (I check their sub-Reddit several times a day and also get their newsletter emailed whenever they have updates).

Good, maybe the audio transcribing will work better in another place. I always had trouble getting the program to work. I know it wasn't this computer, because it is only a few months old. Couldn't have happened to a better site.

Any idea how they plan to make the tasks available to the workers? Upwork is a bidding site that is what I know but I never pursued my plan because bidding for some task is not my cup of tea. If the audio transcription task will be transitioned to Upwork is it going to be crowdsourced?

As others have mentioned, Upwork didn't work out for Crowdsurf's system and way of doing things, but the company moved less than a week ago to WorkMarket as their platform, BUT everything is still hosted on Crowdsurf's old standalone platform for completing HITs. That's a good thing, and the WorkMarket system works incredibly well for getting paid via PayPal, ACH, or even the WM debit card. I wouldn't recommend that high-fee card, though.

There will still be work on Mturk, but the WorkMarket platform will be the focus moving forward.

I have not tried any of those sites, but I've been fairly successful with transcription so I think I'll give it a go. Thanks for the post :)
