New to MTurk
« on: September 08, 2015, 12:34:23 PM »
I just got my MTURK registration approved and started playing around with the site last night and this morning. It is fun so far. I really do not like the fact that you are limited to 100 hits for your first 10 days, and can't cash out until your 10th day. I already made over $1, and should be at least at $15 when I am finally able to transfer my balance.

MTurk is okay for extra money, I find it a little slow for me to earn on and let alone you have to do dumb little tasks in order to get a good reputation and a good qualifying level thing for other people to say hire you or open up their tasks to you. If you're good at translation, and things like that you will make bank on MTurk and then you'll start getting a good amount of money racked up and able to transfer that. Keep working at it, and try to take a lot of the qualifying tests, this way you can work on more things and get a better name for yourself.

Speaking on advice, I should probably actually take my own advice and do the exact same thing and get qualified for more tasks.

Hang in there! It is slow at the beginning, but as the number of hits you complete rise, you will have more to choose from and be qualified to do. Try to get qualified for as many things as possible, that will also help to open up more available hits for you. Plus, after the initial 10 day waiting period, you shouldn't have to wait to cash out.

Good luck!  :)

I did a few receipts spreadsheet tasks and a few transaction ones so far. The translation ones can be difficult if you are trying to read someone's handwriting. I am not throwing in the towel yet because it is a little extra money and gives me something to do when I have a little downtime.

The key to being prosperous with MTurk is learning how it works.  I know that sounds simplistic, but there is a method to Turking.  I would start be doing some research on how to make money from MTurk.  There is a lot of good information available.  Also, get the user scripts.  There's a thread around here somewhere that talks about this in more detail.  You have to be armed when it comes to Mturk, but if you can get a system going, it can be very beneficial.

Thanks for the advice. I am trying to make it through my first 10 days to be over with so I can do more hits each day. Right now I am restricted to 100 each day. It is a quick way to make a few cents when I have some spare time. Only 3 more days to go and I should be a full member of the site.

I think that turkopticon is a must have if you are going to be working for a bunch of different requesters on Mturk. You'll be able to see which ones to avoid.  I pretty much stick to one requester, but every once in a while I like to see what else is out there and turkopticon has saved me a lot of time and potential headaches.

I now have 4 requestors that I tend to stick with for making money as I am  always nervous about rejections. I will do a couple of test hits with any new requestors to make sure my work will be approved before I go with the hits hard. I want to make sure I am keeping my rate at 98% or higher. I just wish there were some better paying hits to choose from.

I signed up for Mturk about a year ago and left it alone quickly after the frustratingly low pay. I recently read about peeps actually making money and I decided to give it another try. I've actually made a little money this time, and I love how I can get paid the next day. However, my luck with that has apparently run out. I completed some tasks last week (surveys, other minor stuff) and I still haven't been paid. I just found out about Turkopticon so going forward I will look up potential requesters or try to stick with those I'm familiar with.

I have been doing MTurk but I haven't been doing it that long. I just need to get higher paying HIT's.

I spent some time doing some higher paying tasks and surveys on this site over the weekend and actually managed to be paid about $10. I think the secret to making money on there is to avoid the small paying tasks unless there is really nothing else to do.  Most of the survey requester have already paid me so it was definitely a morale boost for me.

I haven't heard of Turkopticon. Is that the name of the website?  I use mTurk often and usually don't have a problem with requestors. There was only one time that I went through an entire HIT that was survey, and it didn't give me the code to submit when I was finished. There was nothing I could do and had to return the HIT because I didn't have the code.

Other then that one time, I haven't had any issues with the requester, getting approved, or getting paid.  Is that a big problem for people? Have there been a lot of requestors that are shady?
