That happened to me when I first started on Postloop. It takes a while to get into the swing of things and to notice what forum owners are looking for on their site. Once you have adjusted to it, I think you will find your ratings on the upswing. However, I still don't think my rating is as high as when I first started Postloop, so that is a bit of disappointment.

I think you would have to check the rules for each forum. And then follow them accordingly. Do not bend those rules or you can get banned or scored low.

Then your posts need to have meaning. Aside from that, they also have to be a bit lengthy. At least four sentences, the more the better. But don't forget that you also need to engage the members. Ask questions or create threads that spark conversations.

Lastly, avoid forums with super strict rules. They can be quite hard to please and your rating might suffer if you don't please them.

I realized it is almost impossible to satisfy everybody and I just do my best to get good ratings but then again, I rarely postloop and I would be a fool if I rely on it as my main source of income.

It really depends on the quality of your work. If you are not taking the time to write meaningful posts then the site admin is going to give you a low rating because they are shelling out cash and you are not doing a good job. Only join forums that you can relate to and have something good to contribute.

I am sorry that you are having that problem. I know I have read in the PL forums that some others feel unfairly rated as well. What makes it hard is that writers are not allowed to see who is rating them. That makes it hard to get or ask for feedback and ask why. I know that if I got a rating that I felt was lower than I deserve, I'd want to communicate with the forum owner to ask what I could do to improve. I wish they would make it possible for writers to communicate about such things.

I also try as much as possible to write quality posts with at least three or more sentences. One thing I always try to do is to always start one new thread out of five posts. I'm also careful when it comes to the rules of each forum owners so I won't get banned or anything.  :)

I focused on the forums that I am truly interested in so that the quality of content I write will surely add value to the conversation. I do not feel the need to meet a certain quota just by doing that. The owners if they have the time to review, will certainly appreciate your contribution and will repay you with a satisfactory rating. I stayed away and if need be I unsubscribed from forums with not so good vibes.

The best admins have all gone, for the most part. There are still about 3 high quality forums left. But the rest are extremely stringent. One even implies that they will give low ratings people people who leave and don't stay around, even if their posts are perfect, not a forum I'll sign up to.

I have heard someone else say the same if people don;t post regularly they will not rate as well which has nothing to do with quality as the PL owner always stipulates is the only criteria for a rating.

Basically unless a rating is under a 3 it doesn't get looked at, and that's what most owners do and give a a minimal rating to keep under the radar.

There are very few good/decent/fair owners around and unless they post themselves on other forums they don't really understand how a poor or unfair rating can affect their posts and forums. There was one forum owner who had several forums (and now they have all been culled) and never rated above a 4 (usually a 3.5 and gave a stupid reason), and would stay anonymous, but would rant and rave on the support forum all of the time. In the end posters knew it was him and stopped posting, so even though he stayed anonymous people knew, and he lost traffic and posters.

There are some posters who do deserve low ratings, who never post more than two sentences and repeat what others say, and so in that respect I have no sympathy, especially when they manage to make three posts in two minutes. If you are such a poster, sorry, but a lower rating is deserved when others spend at least a couple of minutes on each post and take the time to read the responses.

Currently, I have 4.6 rating on PL. Since I have a good rating, I can share some tips.

Write longer posts: Your post should be at least 3 lines.
Write grammatically correct: Your posts should be proper English with no mistakes
Write meaningful posts: Your posts should contribute to the discussion

I have had the lowest rating at 3.84 and the highest at 4.63. What I usually do to cope with the frustrations of low ratings is to post aggressively when the ratings are low. Effort should increase proportionately with low ratings. At some point, you will receive a better rating. Make ptsd to jot a thank you message to whoever rates you well. Remember to use polite language to whoever rates you poorly even if the rater is anonymous.

Ratings at Postloop have been going up and down. There was a time when nearly every forum was rating 5 or nearly 5. Then I think someone complained and the admin advised forum owners to be more circumspect in awarding top ranking. So 4.5 became the new 5. Ratings dropped. I remember getting a series of 5s, then got hit with a 3.8. It was a body blow. Since then, I had just simply looked at the ratings only out of interest. There's nothing to be frustrated about. Every forum owner is different. I doubt if they have been given any course or training on awarding rates.

As for whether Postloop is worth working for, it's a very personal thing. If you are under pressure to make a decent income, then you are looking in the wrong place. If, like me, you like to work with no pressure, then it's a great place to pick up a few coins. I work mainly on Postloop to generate some income to pay for things I had to pay for on the internet, like my World of Warcraft subscription.

When I first started my rating was at around 4.6 and that was because my initial rating (set by Postloop) has been 4.2 and then gradually over time, I kept getting worse and worse ratings and they've been in a steady decline for a while. No, my ratings haven't expired, I've just been getting ratings of 4.0 or 3.8 and it's lowering my average grade and I have gotten zero explanation for this. Now, I want to make better posts and ensure I don't get such bad ratings, do you guys have any advice?

Since you asked for advice...(lol)

I have an English degree.  I see that your spelling is good, but your grammar and syntax aren't great.  For example, take your first sentence:

Quote
"When I first started my rating was at around 4.6 and that was because my initial rating (set by Postloop) has been 4.2 and then gradually over time, I kept getting worse and worse ratings and they've been in a steady decline for a while."

There's nothing wrong with a long sentence if you can arrange it correctly, and this sentence confuses the reader.  Here are a few suggestions.

Take the phrase "When I first started my rating..."  It makes it sound like you are the one doing the rating.  The reader doesn't immediately know that you mean, "When I started [Postloop], my rating...."  So you'd need a comma in there:  "When I first started, my rating was at around 4.6."

The rest of the sentence is what we call run-on.  It just runs on and on!  Try reading your sentence out loud.  Sentences need "breath breaks" where the reader can mentally take a breath, instead of just reading "and then this happened and then this happened and then this happened."  This can be accomplished by using commas or by breaking up the sentence.

Consider this:  "When I first started, my rating was at around 4.6, and that was because my original rating (set by Postloop) has been was 4.2.  and then gradually  Gradually, over time,  I kept getting worse and worse ratings, and they've been in a steady decline for a while."

Quote
No, my ratings haven't expired, I've just been getting ratings of 4.0 or 3.8 and it's lowering my average grade and I have gotten zero explanation for this

You may need to study up on your use of commas.  When you say, "...my ratings haven't expired, I've just been...", that comma is called "spliced."  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login has a quick tutorial on how to "un-splice" your commas.

You'll also notice that your sentence above has a lot of "ands."  Again, read it out loud, and you may notice there aren't any convenient places to breathe.  You need either commas or periods.  Consider this:

"No, my ratings haven't expired [here you could use either a semicolon or a period].  I've just been getting ratings of 4.0 or 3.8.  and it's It's lowering my average grade, and I have gotten zero explanation for this.

Well, you did ask for advice! (Hope you don't regret it!)

To others reading this:  I know I break grammar rules all the time, and I'm sure I did in this post; I just usually know how to avoid the grave errors.  And I don't correct others' grammar unless they ask me to, so please don't call me a grammar nazi!

Interesting review of the OP there. I just hope that's not the way he's posting on other forums. Myself, I have a tendency to post the way I speak. Sort of like maintain a conversational tone. Once upon a time, I started a thread called "How to increase your post count without being banned". I am still debating with myself whether to revive this thread here. Maybe it will help some people avoid some of the unproductive ways of forum posting.

What do you think?

I think a lot of folks would appreciate a discussion on posting techniques.  I see posts that are kind of inane and forced, and say, "Hey, they're clearly from Postloop."

I mean, if people really want to learn how to write natural posts with excellent technique, they'll be on their way to developing significant writing skills.  This gig requires both technical knowledge (of the English language) and creativity (in thinking of things to write.)  People can use this as an experience to learn these skills and use them in other areas of life.  I say go ahead!
