What's a good rating on Fiverr?
« on: January 04, 2016, 11:30:34 AM »
I've just started looking around on there. I'm considering buying a few gigs at some point, to advertise one or both of my shops. I have only looked at one so far, but the rating is 96%, and I don't know if that's pretty average, or if it's like feedback on eBay, and it's best to stay above at least 99%. I don't have any money to waste, so need to know before I proceed. Thanks in advance!

Fiverr used to have a thumbs up vs thumbs down system where anything less than a 100% was frowned upon. Now, with the star rating system, I think anything in the high 90's is pretty good. I would be suspicious of a rating that was too high. It is rare for it to stay that way long as is often a sign that either the seller does very few gigs or the seller is using tricks, like canceling orders to refund the money to buyers who give ratings less than perfect. On the other side of that, some buyers give less than perfect ratings to try to force the seller to give them refunds.

My advice would be to actually read the reviews that led to the rating. Then send a private message to the seller you want to use. How quickly do they respond to you? Are they able to answer your questions and make sense? Do they have samples of their work?

Fiverr is a site I have stayed away from, for one thing 5 dollars isn't very much, and for another there seems to be a lot of competition on there. By the same token, I know some people do very well on the site so it may be worth looking at again. I just think the site is saturated...but I haven't really looked it enough to know, I am just guessing.

Thanks @Jinny. I found another that has better feedback and seems legitimate. I was somewhat concerned about the first one (that I posted here about), because he wasn't in U.S., and it was obvious English wasn't his first language. I might not care about that in other circumstances, but although I do occasionally sell outside of the U.S., this is my primary market and audience, so I think it'd be best to use someone within the country for marketing. I might use this one for Etsy marketing if I decide to do that, but I'm looking to boost the audience of my other shop on another site, so will look around for someone who specializes there. This one for Etsy advertising has her own shops, and also Pinterest boards she pins items to, so I'm sure she'd be happy to provide examples, that's a good idea.

I used Fiverr twice to buy Twitter followers and Facebook fan page when I started up my blogs since advertisers loved to see the big numbers on these two sites. I read the reviews but didn't pay attention to the rating.

As @Sidney, the rating is shady since that can also be bought, just as the reviews. I just go with my instinct and figure $5 isn't much to create trouble for others who tried to make a living like I do.

It turned out the person that I bought the gigs from did a great job, and we had a conversation through messaging of how I wanted to be done. My experience was fantastic. I think the best thing is to go with your instinct.

Did buying Twitter followers and Facebook followers help? I always wondered about that? Did it only help you with SEO rankings, or did you actually see direct financial results? Thanks.

Anything in the 90s is fine in my eyes. I'm always wary when it's 100%. You get situations (or at least it happened to me) when you get a service provider that does a shoddy job, and rather than face your rating they'll ask you to cancel the order so that they can keep their 100%.

The system can be manipulated and rigged so don't get sucked in by 100% responses. Below 100% at least suggests they might be normal human beings.

That's a good point @Onionman. It's disappointing but true that people will find ways around any rating system, just like they do with reviews. I might do some in depth research at some point when I have more time, to find someone who can show some actual results with advertising on the other site where my shop is. A friend has graciously purchased some advertising for me, as well as herself, in the past from one person we both follow on Twitter, but that hasn't made a bit of difference for either of us regarding sales, so we're still looking. If I can find someone who can showcase my shop to new audiences and bring in a few sales, I might like to pay my friend back with some free advertising for her shops in the future. I know there have to be marketers out there who can get the word out, it's just a matter of finding them, and being able to afford them, while avoiding the scammers.

The grading for everyone is 0 to 100, and anything in the nineties is great.  The person might not have gotten back to a customer in timely manner which is why it was knocked down a notch.  I would double check the comment section to see if they got good reviews.  People who really liked the work would write a comment.  If there are no comments, that can be an indicator that they haven't got that many gigs.

I have so far bought two gigs on Fiverr. When I bought the gigs I looked for the rating and feedback. Rating is based on the positive feedback from the clients who hired the freelancer. Higher rating means, the freelancer has satisfied customers.

I personally have a star rating of 4.9 across 40 orders.

Also a order completion rate of 100%.

The orders start piling up once you cross 25 completed orders with a high rating. That is what you should be aiming for if you really want to make a sizeable amount of income from fiverr.
