Overall review of Appen Butler
« on: May 20, 2014, 05:02:14 PM »
Anyone have success with this company?  They seem to do web search evaluations and I had gone through and done the testing, been hired and got an enormous amount of emails, but never figured out what exactly to do.  I found some of the wording and way they presented themselves was sketchy at best, and after several times emailing, was never given any clear direction as to what I was supposed to be doing.  I would get constant emails from them about systems being down or holidays and would reply saying 'You hired me ages ago but never told me what to do' and I would get back unclear and even more confusing replies.  I finally emailed them asking to be taken off their list as I was clearly not working for them and they said they would send a termination of my contract to me.  Which they did, but again, I didn't do a minutes work for them and so not really pleased with them overall.

Surely someone has had better experiences with them?

I actually work for them as a crowdsourcer. I'm not sure if that is the proper title. I pretty much get paid per task. They pay on time but by check and you must have made $50 in the cycle to get a check. I haven't had any problems with them but I am not doing the web search evaluator position. I have been with them for about 6 months now and I'm pretty satisfied with the job. I just log in and see if any task are available and work as many hours or minutes I would like to work.

Interesting, thanks!  It sounds like they have various jobs, I had thought they only had the web evaluator position and I suppose it left a bad taste in my mouth with having spent so much time testing for it and never getting a chance.  I think I may fallen through the cracks but will certainly consider looking for different positions within the company.  Thanks for your thoughtful reply!

BradVermont, did you go through training for the search evaluator position as well as testing? I have been with Appen for three years and I've always gotten specific instructions on things. Sorry you had a bad experience with them. I've enjoyed working there though it can be pretty stressful at times.

No problem Brad. If you don't want to continue with Appen. Try companies like Leapforce, Lionbridge, iSoftStone, and ZeroChaos. The have similar positions available and I believe Lionbridge and iSoftSone are currently hiring. Good luck!

I just got hired onto the crowd sourcing, so I'll be giving that a try for some extra money each month :) Glad to hear they pay on time for that!

Hello. I was just wondering what does the crowdsourcing job entail? How is the pay? Is there usually available work? thanks in advance!

I actually signed up to work for them, but never heard back. I sent them my resume, and filled out their online application. I guess they are just not hiring, or I'm too under qualified to do search evaluation.  :P

I currently work for a company called USAcontactpoint. I feel like they intentionally made me end up being a tier 10 agent. The systems kept failing until I became a 10 and now everything's working fine all of a sudden. the pay would be fine if the hours would add up to hours and not minutes per day. I just really wish there was a company that pays well, something that  I can earn at the least 200 to 300 dollars a week. I really don't mind working long hours. I not a fast typer so stuff like forums don't make me much money. If yall have any suggestion please let me know. I have a schedule to start train for Disney in september but that's with Arise and they are so strick about being on the call with costumers for more than the average of 11 minutes. And training is not paid as far as I know.

Yes, they got back to me. Looks like I need to get a Windows based laptop or something. I can do this.

Interesting, I don't have a Windows based computer right now so it sounds like Appen is out of the question even aside from the variable reviews...I'll look into these though, thanks for the suggestions :).

Interesting to hear your experience, I had often read that Appen Butler was one of the companies--when compared to Lionbridge, Leapforce, etc.--that was looked at more favorably than others. That seems really weird what happened to you and makes me think someone clearly dropped the ball somewhere during your paperwork. If you are still looking I believe Lionbridge is hiring so that could be an option for you.

I applied with them about a year ago. I got through to the testing portion, and unfortunately - I didn't pass.

It stinks b/c that is some time consuming testing! Lol

I was hired by Appen Butler months ago to do crowdsourcing but I have yet to actually cashout. because of the lack hits. Honestly its no different from Mturk hits. I think that you would be better off doing crowdsourcing on there because the pay is way better. I feel unless you hired for something else besides crowdsourcing its not all that worth it.
