Is There a Paying Guest Blogger List?
« on: January 13, 2016, 06:57:44 AM »
I do apologize if this has been discussed... I've been away for a while.  But in the past, I've written for a few blogs as a guest blogger.  The norm for payment was around $50 and I enjoyed it.  My favorite place stopped doing that, and I've lost the list I had.

I'm talking like 8-10 years ago, so I'm not even sure if any blogs pay for guest commentary any longer.  Anyone know of a list for places like that... one time paid guest blogging gigs?

I used to really want to do this when i first started working online. When I did do searches for this sort of work, I did unearth a few interesting sites, but Alas! I was never eligible to work for any of them as they were mainly geared towards US residents only. I'm sure if you did a Google search, you'd find something.

Probably there is a few blogs left, but it is hard to come by! I usually received request to blog for free in exchange for their links in that post. Google isn't kind to that type of links, so I declined. I need to retain my page rank more than ever before.

Thanks, lushlala...   as I always do, that's what I tried, long before asking the question here.  :)   In fact, that's why I asked, because there was so much conflicting and outdated information.

It seems that most of the lists that look most promising are outdated or they are backlogged with guest bloggers.

I remember first seeing the concept years ago and it sounded so promising, but then I moved onto other things and never got back to it.  Back then blogs were often paying between $30 and $50 for a decent-sized guest post.  I did a few for $50 and I was excited about continuing, but alas...   :(

I know, and it's such a shame, @Kate! Maybe what you could do is look for online magazines because they do pay a lot more than blogs and/or your average writing sites. I don't know where you are based, but each time I've come across them, they're usually geared towards US residents, and tend to pay upwards of $50 per article. I'll look around and see if I can find the list I used to have and post it here for you. Hopefully I never got rid of it, and it's still relevant.

I don't if there are such sites anymore. You may just want to try writing for article websites such as Cracked, ListVerse, and Love to Know. I think they pay their contributors around $80-100 per article. All the best! :)

BeAFreelanceBlogger.com has a free list of sites that use paid guest bloggers and pay at least $50 per article. Usually you'll need to pitch your article idea to the company first. I've sent many more pitches than I've had successes but it is possible to get these gigs. Each time I was rejected, I learned something. There's a lot of competition but there's still money available for good writers.

I really feel like the popularity (and financial rewards) that come with blogging are on the downhill right now. A few bloggers that I read and enjoy were able to quit their day jobs back in the blogging heyday, but have since had to return - which makes me think they're not making near as much from advertising revenue, product sponsorships and so forth as they once were. I guess that might be why there aren't as many spots for paid guest blogging - because the blog owners simply aren't earning what they did several years back.

There are numerous blogs that pay guest blogger a really good money. However, in order to get approval, your writing must be of high quality. It may take couple of months to receive news about being accepted or rejected. I don't have that kind of skills and patience.

I think the immediacy of reward, even if it's a low reward, is what makes people stick with low paying content mill writing work. Then they end up burned out and feel stuck. Increasing skills and investing the time/patience to get the higher paying jobs pays off in time though because writing something that your name is on is a step towards getting direct freelance writing clients. Getting the better pay is a long term game.

Guest blogging is out. It has been heading that way for awhile, but then a few years back Matt Cutts announced the official end. Guest blogging got too spammy and Google suggests not doing it unless it is very high quality and with an authoritative connection.

I agree that guest blogging is on the downswing BUT there are still sites available that will pay for a well written guest post. I woudn't count on them for large amounts of income but I have gotten paid by a few and won't turn down work NOW that pays well just because it might not be available later.

There are a few of those sites out there,  but usually there is some kind of catch to them like you need to have your article reach their homepage or something. Goodreads is one that I think operates like this. I had a list of these guestblogger opportunities too, and either they weren't actively recruiting, or it was difficult to get your article featured.

I know that a lot of national magazines will pay for a guest blogger position. TheFrisky is always looking for submission and I think xojane is also another blog that you want to check out if you are writing about dating advice or any other woman's issue.
