Amazon Mechanical Turk Has Changed
« on: January 25, 2016, 10:43:14 AM »
A few years ago I worked on Amazon Mechanical Turk doing a variety of small tasks, and I would get paid in the form of a gift card. Recently I started to work on Amazon Mechanical again, but I decided to see if I could get real pay via Amazon Payments. When I reapplied to work on Amazon Mechanical Turk I was told I was unaccepted even though I have worked over 4 years previously on Amazon Mechanical Turk and my score was high. A staff member told me that they couldn't say why I was unaccepted, so I decided to search online to see if others had the same problem. So I searched and found out that someone was denied a job as well, but when that person reapplied using a U.S address, she/he got through. Is Amazon Mechanical Turk only accepting U.S workers? What is the criteria to getting accepted now at Amazon Mechanical Turk?

I thought they had always accepted only US workers? Maybe not. I am sure that is the reason, if you didn't leave them the way I was (forced out over a single person denying my work).

Mechanical Turk was open to international workers up to a few years ago. They changed their policy and only accept U.S. workers last time I checked. It's a bit of bummer as I would've loved to work for them as they have a constant flow of work, which isn't the case with other micro task sites.

I'm sorry to hear that the rules have changed, and you're now excluded, based on being located outside of the United States.

It seems that the majority of large companies that offer these types of employment are located in the U.S., Canada, and a few UK companies. What I don't understand is why people with the means in other countries don't start similar companies/work programs/sites for those in their countries? Obviously there are a lot of people looking for the work, and just as obviously, there are people willing to pay for others to do such tasks, so it seems it would be a moneymaking proposition.

I have heard that they revoked the international workers rights to work on the site so now it is only workable to people living in the US. Dumb but I guess its the right decision for them I suppose.

I hate to be a negative nancy. It's not really my nature. But just to be honest, I've never found the Amazon Mechnanical Turk to be worthwhile. It was just a lot of time and effort for very little money. There are plenty of other sites that pay more and that require more time. If you've had success on Amazon, congrats, because I had very little to no luck making any significant money.

I am from India and I have been trying to signup to Amazon Mechanical Turks but I am not allowed to do so. Every time I try to register my Account I get a message from them saying that my application has been disapproved and they cannot tell me why. They also claim tht I would be able to signup for this if they change their Privacy policy. I really need to figure out how to signup here. If anyone from India who has signed up to Mechanical turks, kindly guide me through the right procedure. I would be grateful for your help.
Thanks and Regards,
Sharath

Well guys from what I have read it is a U.S. only based work from home site.  I am not sure when they changed their policies or why, but that is why you were denied.  This site is a great site and I am always seeing international based work offered so it is quite mind boggling that they don't accept international workers.

I know they used to allow international workers but I guess they have changed that recently. This is the third or fourth forum I have seen a post like this on saying that you had to be a US resident. That really stinks though!

I was under the impression that it is only US workers that get accepted.  I've never even been on the site, but I frequent forums like this one and have seen it mentioned more than once.  However, you did say that you spoke to someone from customer service, you would think that they would understand the problem if it was something so obvious but you never know.

Turk is a pain to get in and once you get in it is a pain to maintain it. I applied to Turk and was accepted but then had to verify my payment method. Gave them all of the proper work and they said it wasn't enough and was declined on Amazon Payments. I'm still accepted on Turk but can't use Amazon Payments which "requires" you to have Amazon Payments in order to get paid. Pretty much I can't do anything at all right now and it was a waste of time.

I have always had an easy time with MTurk. I have a payments account and I have a gift card account and so I can apply my earnings to which ever account I want to. I do not understand why people are having such a difficult time. I will say that they have been a little slower with payment recently. I have not cashed out for a while, but when I transfer my earnings from my dashboard to the account I want it to go to it is taking a few hours now. It used to be almost instant. I am not sure what is going on with that.
