Getting Accepted By Appen
« on: January 25, 2016, 01:49:34 PM »
I applied to Appen as a Search Engine Evaluator over five months ago. I took a test and was not accepted. What are the strict requirements to get accepted at Appen? Do Appen hire workers from other countries other than the U.S? If so which countries? What has been your experience applying for Appen: Was it difficult? Was it easy. How long did it take you to get accepted or rejected by them? How long did it take staff to contact you? I want to know whether my experience has been similar to others.

Hi! I applied to Appen as a transcriber before. I took some tests and passed a few of them. But I haven't had the chance to take all tests available. Anyway, they said that they will contact me if they have some projects for me but I never received any email from them. I think they're accepting workers from other countries because I came from an Asian country. Sorry, if I'm not much help. I hope others can give you more definitive answers.:)

I wasn't sure what kind of a company Appen was, but it sounds like something I don't want to pursue. I don't have time for internet companies who don't value your time.  This is so common in the internet world, since they don't have to see you face to face they tend to treat your labor very casually, and it is not so casual for most of us!

I believe I applied with them and either never heard back, or didn't like what I heard, because I have never worked with them, although I know I checked into it. Perhaps you could try contacting them again to ask what is going on, or just reapply and see what happens.

I usually stay away from sites that require interview, and taking tests. This is an online gig, and they don't pay enough to get my time and effort worth it. They should not have any demand on users beside a written sample.

I should have followed that philosophy when I got the email asking me to test with Appen, but I hadn't heard from Appen in a while, so I obliged. It turned out to be a dead end. I got an email that said I failed the first test (even though it was "training"), then I was given a second chance. I never heard back. Thinking about what I actually could have been hired for, (transcribing short phrases like "Search Google") it really shouldn't have been all of that trouble!  ::)

What type of work is on this site called Appen?? Never heard of it and would like to find out more.  I will see what they are all about, but many of these places seem like they have a quota of workers they work with and anything over that would be rejected.

I have recently taken the comprehension test and the tech test. I probably failed the tech one even though you could search the web for the answers. lol  I passed the spelling test with a 92%. I was also told that I would receive an email from someone when a project came up. I do not know what the pay is like or whether you have to put in 10 hours or something like that a week. I know some places do ask that out of you. I would not mind if the pay is consistent and the site was around for a while.
