Appen Firing Without Notice?
« on: February 19, 2016, 01:40:42 AM »
Appen is a great company to work for, you can make over $12 an hour when they have the work for you. The one thing that has me nervous is that I am seeing some of the same red flags that I am seeing in a few other places. I have been observing that some people seem to get fired with zero warning, and no real reason given other than they were out of data for the reviewers. Yet other reviewers report still having data to review. Is it really about the data, or is that just their nice way to off load people. If you did get fired, would they rehire?

Sites like these are really sketchy when it comes to just letting people go without warning.  I have noticed that this may be because of a certain hidden quota that they have to stay under and that may mean a few of the workers with the lowest scores or work completed will be let go first.  I have noticed this with UHRS ( a client of Clickworkers) they will kick you out of certain jobs without warning..and these are the good paying jobs.  It's a mystery to me why this happens.

This sounds horrible, and it is not something that I am willing to sit on fire for. There are other reputable sites that do the same, delete a user without warning or a reason over night, depending on how they feel. They have all kind of excuses, and rights. There is no law in protecting online workers, and it is sad, but what can we do?

I wish you good luck!

Oh dear, that doesn't sound right! It's such a shame too, because Appen is one of those companies I'm not eligible to work for, but which I've always wished would possibly change to accept international stuff in the future. It baffles me why these companies do stuff like that because surely they must know we talk and as such, word gets around?! Looks like I'm not missing out on anything, after all! We can only hope that over time online workers will be appreciated more and that we'll have some sort of protection.

Yes, I have noticed that with many of these online companies they find their workers very expendable. I mean I think they think that their workers are a dime a dozen and they can get many people to do what you do. I think it is even more common with online work then off line work, because with online work they don't know you or have to look at you when they let you go.
