Do you work from home in a dedicated space?
« on: March 07, 2016, 10:19:54 AM »
Personally I don't really. I tend to end up moving around the house as I do other things rather than working in one spot. I know some people do prefer to have an office or specific workplace though.

I do have a desk that I used to work from, but the problem is that my "office" is in a really cold room of the house, and there is nowhere else for a desk to go, so if I am working in there I have to put a small heater on - which costs money to run, so in my mind there is no point working in there if I have to spend more in order to do it! So instead I sit in whichever room is the least distracting, with the least number of people in it at the time. That always seems to be the best plan for me, anyway.

When I primarily used my lap top, yes I moved around all over the place, wherever I was able to work at the time. Now that lap top is quite a few years old and not the best at keeping up with me, so I have since switched to my desk top. Now I have no choice but to work in a certain spot every day. It was actually easier with the lap top because I kept all my work together in my lap top case. Now I have a desk and it gets chaotic pretty quickly!

I do not have a designated place to work. I do have a desktop that I use for somethings, but I use my laptop mostly for my work. I usually am sitting on the couch or in my chair in the living room. I do not have a typical desk so it is not necessarily comfortable to use my desktop. I am comfortable this way but sometimes it would be nice to have a specific place to work. I might actually get more done.

Yes, I do and that's my home office. My husband and I run a fledgling Graphic Design company that we run from home, so it was crucial to do this. Seeing as we were dedicating one room to being a home office, it just made sense to set me up with my own work space, and I'm so happy I have it. It make my life so easy, and I can restrict all my work to that one room. Sometimes, you just have to say no more online work.

I am comfortable working on the couch with my legs stretching out or on my bed. I don't have a desk so if I can find a place to sit with my laptop, I can work; and sometimes even with noises from the television or music on. My house is too small with one big space for me to find an empty space to work in.

We do have WiFi and I have a small set up in the spare room but I mostly use down there for writing. Most of what I do doesn't really require a space as an office so I do most of my work in the living room, sometimes bedroom.

When I'm working from home I don't really have a specific office area or anything - I have my laptop set up on my kitchen table and so my work gets completed from there, most of the time. Sometimes I'll also do things from my smartphone if I'm out and about.

I use a desktop computer so all my online work is done from the room where it lives. However when it comes to writing blog posts, I often get ideas when I'm away from my computer and it's not unusual for me to write whole posts using pen and paper. I've written blog posts while I'm working on my bonsai trees and even in bed if I happen to wake up with an idea. I find I'm more creative when I'm away from my computer.

I, also, have the tendency to move around frequently and utilize different areas.  I do have an “official work-office”, so to speak, in which I do spend a hefty amount of time in.  Then, when I feel the repetitive nature starting to creep in, I know it’s time for a slight shift in atmosphere.  From my home-office, I might go to the kitchen table, the couch or one a decent day, maybe even outside on the deck.  Honestly, I don’t have any preference of where; I just know that to aid in preventing tedious habits of just going through the motions and ultimate burnouts, a scenery change is necessary every now and then.

I don't have a dedicated space for working so I tend to move around. I always do transcription from the desk, using the desktop computer, full-size keyboard, and my foot pedal. For writing and other work though, it really varies. Our wifi is excellent, which gives me a lot of options - Standing at the counter, sitting on the couch or in the bean-bag chair, sprawled on the bed, sitting on the floor, on a camp chair on the dock or even in the hammock. I do find that I like the IDEA of working outdoors more than the reality. I rarely last more than an hour or so. I get work done but I also get sunburn or bug bites or hot. Still, going outside can be a nice change of pace. I find when I'm stuck that changing positions/locations helps. Sometimes I even go farther than the yard and venture into Starbucks or McD's or the library.

I can't  say I have a dedicated space. I spend most of the time working from my bed when I do work from home. I take my laptop with me everywhere I go at home and at work. It's become 'a thing' so that I have everyone wondering and asking what I am doing online.

I am sure if this was to become a full time job, I would have a dedicated space to work for at least most of the times.

Quite so, yes. I work in front of my desktop almost every day. I have a laptop but I'm more comfortable working sitting down than lying on the bed. But I do wish that my space is a bit bigger so that I can fit my laptop for more multitasking than what I've done so far.

Yeah, I work in my room where I put all the necessary devices I need to work. But I don't stay or work there at all times, I too move around the house often, going from one place to another. I sit on the sofa, go outside the terrace, stand on the counter, etc. It depends on the mood. It's a hassle though, because my laptop is a very big and heavy laptop (gaming laptop). It's a pain to lug it around. I also don't leave my things scattered all over the place and get the house messy because my parents will get mad.

Yes right across from my bed in my bedroom is my desk with 2 printers, a headset, and a beastly PC which I could use for gaming or for working. I had used it for gaming in the past but now it has been a working PC recently.
