Why buy access to facebook ad accounts?
« on: March 16, 2016, 09:14:47 PM »
About a year ago, I saw an ad on craigslist from someone who wanted to create a page on my facebook account and use the ad manager to pay for ads for that page. They didn't need my password or anything to do what they needed to do so I let them do it. The money hit my paypal account 3 days later. I offered them another facebook account (I have several for various reasons), they set up another ad account and then sent me money. Cool!  Their criteria was that the account had to be at least a year old and used regularly. I set up a fresh facebook account. Nurtured it with games and added friends. Once it had a decent amount of friends, I signed into it once a week, made a post, liked/commented on a few things. I just sold access to that ad account for $100 to the same site that bought the other accounts.

My question is this, how are they making money from that? Is it something that I could do for myself? They have to be making a decent amount to be willing to pay that much AND put out the money they do for the ads, right? So what's the deal?

That sounds amazing and incredible that you don't have to give them the password, but you made money from it. Though I have to say it gave me quite a few questions about it too. I have never heard of anything like this before.

I wish to know more before I can dare to say anything. Is it still going on? Or they still sending you money or is it just a one time deal for each page they created?

It appears that they just send money once for each time they create a page & use the ad account. BUT I don't actually know if they're still using the accounts I sold them last year. I haven't sold them access to my personal account. I sold them access to accounts I had created to play games or be active in discussion groups that I didn't necessarily want my family to know I was active in. When I got bored with each account, I abandoned them.

To access your account, they use the same type of program that tech support uses to access your computer remotely or that you might use (well, I use at least) to connect to your own computer from somewhere else to get access to programs/files? In this case, they use teamviewer, which is a program I have used and been happy with for a long time so I was comfortable with it. Doing it that way lets them access your account without knowing the password because you sign in yourself. Then they create the page and the ad account and add their own facebook account as the admin so they can make changes to it and stuff.

Their requirements are:
Quote
-You must be 18 years or older.
-You must currently live in the United States or Canada
-You must actively use your Facebook from your own computer and internet connection
-You must have a Paypal account to accept payments.

The site says they pay when the ad account is approved which can take up to 24 hours. The actual payment came after about 35 hours.

Hi @Jinny Thank you for the clarification, but that made me nervous about them being able to access my computer remotely. I am always on the frightening side of thing when it comes to this part. I was scammed too many time and ID stolen so you can understand why I am hesitated.

I am glad you were able to make some money with them though!

I can see why you would be nervous then. I guess I'm more comfortable because I use this type of software pretty regularly, like to access my bookkeeping client's computer and use quickbooks in her system because I don't have it on mine and he needs access to those records anyway or to access my home desktop from my laptop to grab files. I agree that there are potentially 'bad' uses for that type of connection if you're not actively watching what they do in your system.
