Bigger plans?
« on: May 19, 2016, 01:51:55 AM »
With online work being more work than pay most days, I've been working on a plan for something bigger.  The plan is still loose but eventually I would like to have a website to sell my artwork and goods, while my books would sell twenty-four seven on sites like Amazon and B&N.  I want to stop doing SlicethePie, Postloop, and surveys in a year maybe two because of how unprofitable it is and focus on bigger more profitable projects.

What about you?  Do you have a bigger plan in mind or are you just making a little extra cash add to your retirement egg?

Absolutely! This is exactly the principle I've often mentioned on this site. Online work is great because it's convenient and available, but the trouble is a lot of our time is spent trading time for money. So the maximum we can earn is the hours we put in for the rate we can charge / fee we get paid. To me, the model needs to shift to one where you can leverage someone else's time, money, energy or platform. This is the only way you can get scale and a way in which you can create passive income.

My aim is to create courses and ebooks. I have two specific fields defined, vague ideas of the audience and I know roughly what the products will deliver. I just need to make time in my day to fully push on with it. It's a long-term project anyway.

I don't have a bigger plan, I am just making some extra money to face the daily expenses and be able to afford some things I wouldn't be able to if I wasn't working online.

Sounds like a fantastic plan and I wish you all the luck in the world!

Your plan is ambitious and was mine at one point, but now I am just trying to earn some pennies, enough for the month, to pay bills. I thought e-book would be the way to go, tried it, failed, and ended up just wasting my money on printing out the proof. I am also on many art sides, made a few sells, but then it was hit and miss. I need steady income, so now I will just work for pennies!

I hope that we all have bigger plans, because online work is not secure (no job is) so you need to find something you enjoy as well. My focus is on my books and websites for the books, to build them up and a following. It will take time, but I do enjoy it and I have control which is the main thing.

I have bigger plans too. My focus is on my blog, writing some books and working to build a food/gardening business. I know it seems all over the place, but I don't want to work for anyone else, so I have my hands and mind working and developing on things that I love.

I am setting aside around 40% of my monthly earnings in preparation for my future plans. I am not certain yet if I will continue on with putting up my brick and mortar type of business or shall I take advantage of the internet.

Right now the main plan is making cash to help with the household expenses otherwise I feel sort of like a burden and that is not a good way to feel. Aside from that I would like to write for a living or make up my mind on college. It is a hard choice though with real world bills and expenses or find more ways to make income.

Well the bigger plan is to sell my house and move somewhere where better internet and work is more readily available, if that doesn't happen and I am not really sure it will I think that I will try getting a reverse mortgage in a few years when I am elgible, as my primary source of income. However, I will continue to work online of course..do writing etc. I would be happy if I could double my online income though in whatever form that is.

Right now I would say that for the most part, my online work is just a way to earn some extra income. But with my writing I'm trying to build a portfolio so I have examples of published work. I've been doing a couple of pieces for my local newspaper, unpaid - but it's a great way to get my name in print and have some evidence of what I've written! Eventually if I could earn a full time income just from writing I would be thrilled.

Well I've never earned from doing things like PostLoop (I was a forum owner, so I paid them), but I do work from home (I run my own consulting agency). My plans include trying to grow my business, starting a 2nd business, and finishing my novel and hoping to get it published (if I can't get it professionally published, I'll just self-publish).

Being a consultant has to be a great job, nothing better than being paid for giving our opinion right? I wish I was a consultant too. :)

I have no big plan, as such. But I really wish I could find something that I could do remotely from home, that pays better than our bog standard online 'jobs'. So that's what I'm working towards. I'm now checking the internet for those types of jobs from time to time. I'm really inspired by this girl i know who works remotely for a German company, and works from home, gets a great salary and benefits. Not to sell myself short, but even if I get something not quite as fantastic as that, as long as it was better paying than what I currently get, I'd be totally made up :)

It's always a good idea to have a bigger plan for the future. I'm working on my apps on the side, which I plan to promote and sell. I don't expect massive revenues, as the market is saturated but they will help me get noticed and secure more contract work. This is definitely a line of work I hope to pursue in future, as the pay tends to be quite good.

I'm slowly adding more direct writing clients. I'm hoping that once I have enough of those, I'll be able to give up transcription. My "ideal" work from home scenario would be having a few high-paying writing clients who needed regular work and some more passive income from books on sale. I'm also hoping to get into life-coaching.
