Do you sell at fairs/markets?
« on: July 20, 2016, 08:52:56 PM »
Do you sell your crafts/jewelry at craft fairs or local markets?

And if so, do you find any success at it?

I have gone through stints. I did some religiously around 2008-10, but after the recession hit, it started to be far less profitable for me. People just didn't have as much spending money.

However, I've started doing it again, starting small with a half stall at my local farmers market. It seems to be doing pretty well. I don't make tons, but $40-50 a slot when I only paid $5 is not too bad.

I have a cottage kitchen and have sold at shows before. It's in mothballs right now and I plan to get everything back out once I have a new batch of quail in the spring. One of my items is pickled quail eggs. When we go back to it, we are going to try farmer's markets. I think that is going to be the best place. There are many restrictions on where and how you can sell in the state of Texas.

I'd love to do this but there's so many restrictions I'm afraid I'll end up getting something wrong and ending up with some sort of huge fine. I don't know if I'll ever actually be able to do this. I'm not sure I'd have the confidence to sell my products for what they're worth either - if someone said "I'll give you 50 cents for it" I'd end up taking it because I'd be too afraid to say no. Lol.

I tried to sell my necklaces at Downtown Los Angeles' Art Walk, but most people attend just to look at fee art, eat from food trucks and drink at gallery openings. I didn't have much success there and I find that etsy and Amazon are great places for me. Ebay is too big and I can't find the right buyers.
