Looking for a "Buy your Article" type site
« on: July 21, 2016, 07:30:26 PM »
Hello, I'm looking to write more but I really dont want to spend anytime marketing myself.  I am looking for a site that would post topics and simply pay for original articles based on those topics.  Ideally, they purchase and then pay some kind of residual every time one of your articles is used.  Does this sort of thing exist? I feel like the concept is something that I have found before, so this is what brought on the question.   Thanks in advance, glad to have found this forum.

There are two options which you are having:

  • Fiverr: In this you would have to open up a gig and let the reviews some in. You would not be able to directly sell the articles from day 1 because more buyers would only buy when you have reviews.
  • Iwriter: In this you would be able to find out the exact requirement of people who need the articles and thus making it easier for you to write and sell the articles and the price is more then fiverr generally as well.

if you are able to utilize these 2 options, you would have more then enough opportunities to sell your articles.

I think constantcontent allows you to sell full rights or just right to publish but I'm not a fan of them. Writelearnearn requires you to sell full rights all at once. Textbroker sometimes has work and sometimes doesn't. All three of those definitely pay. Blogmutt pays (but you have to be in the US to write for them) for full rights to articles sold to their clients, written to the clients keywords. I've posted a few articles to ghostbloggers.net BUT I haven't sold anything in that marketplace so I'm not sure whether they actually pay writers or not (though if they do pay, their rates are good).

There are lots of "we buy your article" types of site.I joined couple of these sites but sadly I was not able to sell any of my articles. I am on freelancer sites and found some luck. On freelancer sites, there are writing jobs available, you bid on the jobs that you find comfortable working on. You can try
upwork
fiverr
iwriter

There are plenty.

For marketplaces, Constant-Content is excellent (good rates, tough editorial filter, 35% cut). They allow you to sell full rights or usage (multiple sales of the same item). DotWriter is reliable (low rates, easy editorial filter, not sure of the cut) as it was bought by a marketing publisher recently. Not so familiar with that one.

For on-demand writing, iWriter is the standard (terrible rates unless you find private clients, very little writer protection, 18% cut I think) but competition is fierce, and BlogMutt is superb (very reliable, but US-only).

For rev share, HubPages is the only viable site. Rev share is dead (it has been for a long time), but HP has such a huge, active community that it can actually generate legitimate income internally, so it still works.

My own WriteLearnEarn is a sales funnel, similar to the marketplaces but there's no buying option on-site - I market everything behind the scenes. Fixed rates at sale, or instant sale up-front for small amounts.

All of those pay reliably.

The difficulty here is the whole "write what I want and sell it" thing. Unless you're writing to title (iWriter style), your articles only sell if they're good. I see tons of people regurgitating the same old crap and getting upset when it doesn't sell - basic SEO, common challenges in pregnancy, health benefits of green tea, how to choose a locksmith... I must have seen 200 of each of those! Just because someone else is marketing for you doesn't mean any old rubbish sells. But if you're writing interesting, useful stuff, any of those sites should work well.

Bear in mind that - again, unless you're writing on demand - more content means more sales. Writing 3 articles then waiting to see if they sell won't work on marketplaces: the key is quantity as well as quality. Yes, it's a potentially risky time investment, but that's the way markets work - you have to offer a little of everything so that customers have a bigger choice. :)

Thank you! I didn't know you can sell articles at Fiverr and Iwriter? I would try to sell my articles there. Writing sites aren't paying much these days - not to mention the fact that they're stressful. Hope I get to receive an amount that matches my effort.

I would love to really hear some ideas surrounding this one as well.  I am pretty sure that I have exhausted all of my efforts trying to find decent places to write online, but those are just really not out there unless you in the market for the long term solutions.  Those opportunities are out there, which is good news of course, but the more short terms ones like buying articles, I think those are harder to find.  Interesting stuff though, and good to keep in mind.
