Selling on Facebook
« on: July 26, 2016, 10:40:05 PM »
Hi guys!  :)

Here in my area, I have noticed a number of people making money by selling stuff on Facebook. Be it their pre-loved items, food, crafts or reselling items. There's a local Facebook group in my city where residents could post their items on sale and most of the payment are done using meet-ups. Some have been successful doing this as a way of earning extra money or even as their main source of income.

Have you ever tried selling on Facebook? What was your experience?

So far I have old sold my cars on Facebook. Right now I am trying to sell my 2002 Buick which is getting little replies right now. However I have seen people who sell clothes and baby items always get those gone it seems. And some people seem to pickup used items and resell them for profit as well if there is a profit to be made. I have heard of people having very good experience with it, and I have too even though not so much right now. But a car being sold is much different compared to selling clothes or books.

I'm still observing how buyers and sellers are trading on Facebook but I'm also thinking on trying my luck at selling through the site. I have actually posted some pictures of my pre-loved items on sale but just like you @WorkAtHomeGal, no one seems to be interested yet or maybe my posts have been easily covered up by newer posts from other members of the buy and sell Facebook group I am in.

I'm just a little bit concerned on how other members have been bashing each other there so I'm still a bit cautious in my selling.

Do you mean via a local group? If so then you can at least check the person exists and isn't a fake profile. I do feel that selling anywhere be it ebay, craigslist, or Facebook always carries a small amount of risk.

Maybe look for a group in the area that is 'closed' because they tend to monitor members more strictly?

I have a Facebook page through which I advertise the clothes I sell. It's not a big outfit, just a small side business that's now on the back burner because I've got my hands full at the moment. I initially thought I'd be able to sell on there, but sadly internet access here remains a luxury for many people. We do appear to get a lot of likes and views. But further than that, nothing. We've had a small handful of enquiries over time, though.

I think those county groups are great! You may not want to be temped to set up your own page unless you have a separate business address and phone. Because if you enter your home address and phone, that can get blasted all over google. It happened to me and was a mess to clean up.

Thanks for the tip. I am also very wary when it comes to posting on public groups or exposing my personal information on social media or the internet as a whole. So what I did was create another FB account dedicated solely for my buy and sell plans. I haven't been able to convert any post to any sale at the moment though.

Yes, it's a local group with where I live and I most of the members live in my city but it's a public group that's why anybody from other cities can also become a member. One of my fears when it comes to this kind of business though is the possibility of encountering frauds or posers who would only make me believe that they would buy but when the time comes for me to deliver my item, the person suddenly cancels or can no longer be contacted.

I am a re-saler but i usually sell on eBay due to the fact i live in a smaller ity and get most of my inventory from local auctions and people always complain about others sell items they bought somewhere from cheap (like an auction) and selling for a profit of my local Facebook sites.  My thought is well ya that is how some people or really any resale business makes profit and money. I personally do not see the problem but some people do so I stay away from facebook sale sites.
