What Has Been Your Experience With Craigslist Jobs
« on: August 03, 2016, 02:19:00 PM »
I've been searching through work at home jobs on Craigslist and I've seen quite a few but most of them seem like scams or sales jobs. I saw a few that look good and pay pretty well but I've never applied for a job advertised on Craigslist.Have any of you applied or taken a job advertised there and what was your experience?

So far my experience has been pretty good with CL jobs. My boyfriend got his job at Universal Studios because their HR was advertising on CL. I also had a nice paying transcription job where I transcribed 8 tapes and made $400 in a weekend. The tapes were not that long either. I love the university surveys too. They pay well!

For short gigs with local people, I love craigslist jobs. I've gotten temp assignments (full time for 2-3 weeks) on database projects and to cover maternity leaves. I've done some babysitting, some tutoring, a little cleaning, some time helping cashier for a food truck, and repackaging for someone who orders in bulk and then resells on amazon. The little stuff where I meet people in person, do the job, and get handed cash right then are my favorites.

The places where I have found scams have been people who aren't local. Anyone who doesn't want to pay me cash or paypal or direct deposit from a legitimate company that I can verify gets a "no thanks" from me. Never money orders or checks.

I have found nearly all of my life's jobs through Craigslist.  But like you said, there's a lot of trash listed there, and you have to be really aware of them!

I've never regretted applying for something on Craigslist, and I've applied for dozens of jobs.  Obviously they have hundreds of people applying for the good ones, so they don't always get back to you, and if they do, it's not right away (though I almost always have great results from following up, as they know I'm really interested then.)

My main tip is to follow their application instructions exactly.  A lot of people, in their rush to apply for as many jobs as possible, do the bare minimum.  If they ask for your resume, do attach it and make sure it looks good - but a cover letter is always in order, even if it's just in the body of the email.  That way they know that you've read the description and you truly believe you're right for the job.  Make them feel like their position is the only one you're applying to.

Also, match the tone in the ad.  If they seem like a laid back company and have some little jokes in their ad, you can be more casual.  If they are very formal, be very formal.

I only rarely apply to jobs that have poor grammar and spelling, unless they're looking for an admin assistant because they know their own writing sucks!

Hope this helps in your search!

The company I work for advertises on Craigslist. They get quite a large response out of it. Further, for companies to post to certain areas, they have to pay a fee.
