Have You Ever Taken A Break From Online Work?
« on: August 13, 2016, 03:25:34 AM »
Hi guys!  :)

During the months of April and May, I'm usually on vacation from online work because my family and I usually go down to my husband's hometown for summer vacation. These are the months when children are also on vacation from school here in my country so we get to spend a little more time for relaxation.

Internet speed could be really slow in my husband's hometown so I don't really get to open and check my online job accounts. I then get to work again during the month of June.

Have you also ever taken a break from online work? How long has been your longest break?

I think most of us taken imposed breaks when sites are slow or down, but I have taken a break when I was doing real life work and also when I found online work to be tiresome and a chore.

It was when some forums had nasty members, and surveys were long or kept screening me out, and I saw it as a sign to take a break. I also take breaks when I am busy with other things, because one needs to focus and have balance.

I have also been screened out more than being accepted for surveys which somehow got me tired of them because after minutes of spending time answering their initial questions, it's just so upsetting to learn that you did not qualify and you have no merits for the time you have spent hoping that you will be qualified. I would just usually check out my survey sites only when I really don't have any other available work to do but I rarely check on them nowadays. I still much prefer writing gigs and forum postings because you know that your efforts will soon end up being paid. :)

When I was younger, I took a break from "at home" work. I say it this way because when I started working from home, it was folding T-shirts, socks, and hose. I did bookkeeping (the long way) and other stuff that didn't involve getting on a computer much. I have been in and out of working from home over the years but I have almost always been working. The transitions were more like "a couple of days off." I have been where I am at for about 6 years now and last year was the first time in 17 years I had taken a REAL vacation (aka, no kids.) It was strange coming back and still seeing a full check as it was the first time I had ever used vacation time in a chunk like that. I think I would be bored or something if I did take a break like that. However, taking 2 months to "get away from the droning on of life" seems like it would be nice.  ::)

I take some based on what is going on. Right now for instance I haven't been doing hardly anything online work wise since doing the garden because I have to do that pretty much every other day. And sometimes I get home late. By the time I wash up, eat I just want to sleep. That type of work really tires me out, I am still getting use to it. When the garden isn't happening I try not to take breaks but sometimes it is unavoidable.

I took a 4 day break last week. I am still pretty new to all this and trying to get acclimated. I was feeling kind of tired of it so I set a few days aside. I like that I can do that. I came back feeling refreshed and ready to go. I got some things figured out too, as I had time to think about the best ways of doing things. I like the flexibility of online work.

I usually take a break after a rather long book project, say 3 to 4 weeks but only for 1 or 2 days. I work even when I'm on vacation because I just can't stand being idle. The good thing about working online is there are difficult tasks but there are also tasks that you can do on a relaxed mode and still manage to earn some money.

I think one of the best things about online work is having the flexibility and freedom to work depending on how you want it. This is one of the things that still keeps me coming back to this field of work despite taking long breaks. I have never actually thought that I would find a source of income outside my regular day job but online work has given me the chance to earn flexibly that's why I really appreciate it so much. :)

The only time I have taken a break from online work was when I was travelling abroad and my hotel WiFi went down and this was only for 1 day.

For me, online work is my investment income and therefore I never try to skip it as I always try to grow my investment income as much as possible so that it multiplies in future.

Yes, I have taken a break from online work. The last one I took was just over. I spent a few years teaching English as a second language in Thailand. It was a very much hands-on kind of work. I did remain in touch with the internet because I created a system where I gave assignments and collected the homework done through Facebook. However, for a few years, I hardly did any real work online. Now I am back in cyberspace. Maybe the next break will be a very long time from now because I am very much older now and working online is just fine with me.

Hi Aree! :) Glad to see you as an addition here in this forum. I would also like to welcome you back to the world of online work. I see that you have had a great career in teaching and I congratulate you for that. See you around the forum! :)

Ever since I started working online, I've never willingly taken a break. In fact, if it were up to me, I'd proper put my back into it and seriously do a lot of online work. Sadly, as we've all noticed, it seems to have progressively got slower and slower this year. I don't know what it's going to take, but I hope it will pick up in the not so distant future :)

I have just come back from a long break from online work.

A few years back, an old friend invited me to go back to Thailand to help him with some work. One thing led to another and I ended up teaching in a school. Then I taught in another school and another. Finally I ended up teaching in a university. In the end, I was hit with a deadly virus and was hospitalized for many days.

Now I am back in my own country. And back online again. Yaay!

I too am hoping for things to come around for online work because this is my sole source of income right now. Less opportunities online means less income for me. I wonder though why there is a slow down in online work the past year. I hope this doesn't mean that we are looking at a grim future for online work.

I have taken an extended break from online work in the past after I became engaged in a daytime job in an unfamiliar location. I was an active member of a bux site which required one to have a daily input with regard to the tasks available. As a consequence, I lost alot of points and became demoralised to the extent of abandoning it. The best strategy is to minimise the number of sites that confer ratings like freelancing sites in order to cut your losses.
