Individual Forums That Pay?
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:11:48 PM »
Hello everyone!  :)

There's this forum I have subscribed in with PL where I found out that the forum posters are credited in Dollars for the posts they contribute. It's a new forum on PL and so far, my profile shows that I have more than $5 as credit. The forum owner clarified that these amounts which have been showing on our profile could soon be used to purchase from the forum's shop which is still yet to be filled. They can also be used to improve the way our profiles look and they can even be claimed as real cash.

It's my first time encountering this so I would just like to ask you guys if these kinds of forums really exist. Have you ever posted on individual forums which credit their forum posters with cash or gift certificates?

Oh yes, I have indeed. It depends on how active the forums are and how generous the owners are. There was one forum where I get forum money for every post I make and, when I have enough forum money, I can exchange them for web hosting. In another forum, I could exchange my forum money for domain registrations. It's one way for forum owners to reward their active members. The forum money is usually used to buy some digital product. I don't remember the forum money being exchanged for real cash, though.

I see. Thank you for enlightening me @Aree Wongwanlee. :) Maybe that's why I'm kinda having doubts if the exchange for real cash is true because if it is indeed true, I wonder how the forum owner could pay in cash for all the forum members considering that he/she only earns income from ads. If all the forum members would all ask for the amount they earned in cash, the forum owner might not be able to possibly pay for all of them in an instant.

@gracer, if the forum owner has done his maths properly, things will work out alright. Let's say, you get one forum dollar for each post. Then the forum allows you to buy a domain name with, say, 1000 forum dollars. A domain costs about $10. That means it works out to be just one cent per post. That's a fantastic price for the forum owner.

I see. So I guess it's worth the try then if that's how it works. :) I guess I just couldn't believe my eyes at first because it's my first time encountering one but your explanations are helping me understand about it a lot. Thank you so much for that. It is indeed a great effort by the owner of the forum to think of ways to make his/her forum members happy and satisfied with the forum. I wish more forums would implement such kind of reward system. It would be a big plus for members and forum posters. :)

I think I know the site you are on about (with a dark background) and this is the third site this owner has done with the same set up which is why I haven't joined.

It was on PL as well and then it was abandoned within a year. Perhaps this one will be more successful, but who knows? I'm only going in experience here.

Yes, it has a dark background. It's still offline from PL as of this moment though and I haven't visited it since it was offline. If this is the third time the owner has created a similar platform site, I hope that this time it would be successful. I'm actually not keeping my hopes up high but I'm somehow contented posting there since I know that I'm being credited from PL. Other than that, I don't really expect anything much from the forum. It would be a delight though if I would really get to use the credits that I'm accumulating from my posts.  :)

I know of some individual forums that pay and one is on PL while the other two went offline in Forumwheel. These are QneedA and Whatsgood.us. I am not sure about the latter, but I had seen a review about it which pointed to the fact. Anybody with feedback of the same? As for QneedA, they don't pay directly in the real sense of the word, its a contest with a prize of $30 for the most active writer or contributor on a monthly basis.

I don't doubt the integrity of the owner, but the site is always filled with flashing ads that slows my laptop down, plus they aren't the types of ads that are let's say family friendly.

The owner always stipulates if you post your 5 a day and don't do more, then he will rate you badly. I recall he rated me once (4) and then withdrew it, but it still messed up my average. I just prefer not to deal with fickle owners.

Really? He has done three forums already? Probably he has done more, which you do not know about. He does sound like someone I have met many years ago. They may not be the same person. That person I met years ago made a business out of creating forums, inflate them with paid content, then sell them for a tidy profit to some people who are clueless about how forums work.

I wonder which site it is you guys are talking about, but anyhow I'll figure it out soon. I did sign up for a few forums in the past with a similar setup. And yes, the money cannot be converted to cash but can be credited for items sold within the site's shop. Some gaming and SEO forums even have contests and other gigs where you can win real dollars and they send it directly to your PayPal. The caveat is that these forums haven't been online for some time now.

His other ones were rahstyles, a domain he is now selling. They all have the same format and look, and slightly trashy content (IMHO talking about naked girls, sex problems etc).

I am sure he has created more sites, but they just aren't worth joining for the money.

There are a couple of forums which offer some real life rewards. One offered a $1000 prize for the thread with the most likes. Somehow, that didn't seem right to me since the activity on the forum does not look like it would support such a big prize. So I kept away.  The other forum is about administrating forums. They are doing a membership drive and they offer, as a reward, as licensed copy of Xenforo for the member who refers the most new members. That looks more realistic.

Yeah I joined Rahstyles and Whatsgood as well, and I got rated 3.7 only. I kept posting, but I never joined his 3rd forum anymore because he might rate me low again. I hate that his forums also slows down my PC. I think the admin is also Filipino, and I don't trust them to pay their members outside of PL. My compatriots are stingy!

Well I got a good laugh at the whole being stingy thing, but there might be some truth to it, so in that sense I would need to have proof that they are paying people who are based in different countries.  That is just something that you need to think about these days and weigh in when you are making your decision.  I am glad to hear that there are forums out there though, so I might have to look around a little more.
