I hadn't known that U-Haul has a call center manned by home workers... until I just looked it up.   :)   I think working for an established company like this would be great for someone who doesn't mind the phone work.

As for me... I did WAY too much of that right after I graduated and I don't think I'd be a good fit any longer...  too many bad memories of mouthy customers.   :o

I feel you! :) I've worked in various call centers and dealing with mouthy, demanding and sometimes rude customers can really be draining. A lot of people think that phone work in an easy one - just sitting around, talking to customers but they don't realize that hearing people complain, shout and curse on a daily basis can affect you, no matter how positive you are as a person. I'll pass for now. :)

"Mouthy customers" is just something you have to deal with in the call-center industry, especially if your job in centered on customer service. Its true that you'll have to deal with a lot of angry, impatient, irrational and down right rude folks and a lot of people in the industry have trouble dealing with it. I have over 2 years experience working for call centers, particularly customer service, and I've taught myself not to get affected by irate customers. Just try not to take things personal and you'll be fine.

I feel the same way. I don't think I could deal with the bad attitude of people that call 90% of the time. I'm sure some people enjoy it but It's definitely not for me. The pay isn't even that much greater than other online opportunities.

I've never heard about this. I would be willing to give it a try if the pay is okay. Plus, I would prefer to be able to have some control over my hours. I need to be flexible so I can do the work that is most profitable to me throughout the day, this can vary depending on what's available with my other sources of income.

I've never done any work with a call center, but I think I could handle the irate customers by remaining calm and focusing on trying to help them resolve their frustration. I wouldn't take it personally because they don't really mean it that way. I've been an irate customer myself at times.  ::)

Back in college I used to work at the financial aid office.  Talk about irate callers  :o.  It was really a learning experience.  No, I don't think I could work for any of the phone jobs.  It would suck all the enjoyment out of working from home for me.

This is interesting news for me. I had no idea U-haul offered this sort of work. I have actually been looking for a work at home job just like this for what seems like an eternity now. I will definitely have to look more into this one as it seems like the perfect opportunity for me, thanks.

I would not do this because I would then not enjoy what I am doing. I started working from hom so that I would be happier and enjoy what I was doing.

I worked from home for Uhaul last year for about 4-6 months. The pay wasn't great, but the hours are definitely there. They are most busy during the summer. I had no problem getting 40 hours/week.

I'm no longer there, but it was my decision. One of the reasons I started working from home was so that my hours would be more flexible. That's not the case with Uhaul. It's like any other job where your hours are schedule, your breaks/lunch are scheduled too.

Definitely a legit opportunity.

I have never tried working at a call center company before, but I know how stressful this job is because I have friends who are working for them. I also don't think I could handle irate clients/customers through phone calls. I prefer dealing with them via chat or email. At least, I don't hear their profanities.

While I have never worked in a call center (and probably will never work in one ;D), I have worked as a Customer Service Representative for over six (6) years and enjoyed it...and I think maybe the reason I liked this type so much (it was offline - regular 9-5 job by the way) is because I started at point A and follow through to the end with the individual, which keeps me in control as much as possible. I ensure I keep the communication going, so as not to give them any reason or opportunity to become annoyed or "rude/cursing" callers  ;).

Unfortunately, it is not the same with call center tasks where sometimes, someone else didn't do their part effectively or at all, then I have to deal with the backlash of that :(....no way! 8)

Wow, scheduled breaks. I need a lot of flexibility in anything I do, including any type of work I engage in. If I wanted to be so structured, I would get a job offline that paid a lot more. I'm sure that type of thing works for some, but it doesn't fit in with my needs or abilities. I have seen that they and other companies had this type of opening, but didn't pursue it for that reason.

I had been on the phone too before. It was not an easy job. You try your best to think on your toes while providing the best to your super demanding customer. I can handle that but sometimes customers get too rude and they yell at you and want you to do the impossible. I am an employee and I do not represent whatever flaws the company has and I do not deserve to be treated inhumanely

I agree with you 100%!! It can be very frustrating to be a good, professional person/employee within a company that either doesn't have a good reputation/track record or one that doesn't have or give the necessary tools that enables the employee to do a good job. When this is not done, the employee gets it and gets it hard! Which, in a normal setting we probably could fire back, even without being rude, but in such a scenario, we need to be professional and hold our tongue because "the customer is always right" (which I do not accept by the way) 8)

I personally could do with something like this. It's not the best of jobs, but in terms of WAH prospects, it's one of the better paying ones, and you do get full time hours. I too have years' experience of contact centre based customer service and the amount of grief some customers are hell bent on dishing out onto customer service agents is enough to put anyone off for life. But if they were hiring international workers, I'd be all over it LOL
