ebook publishing
« on: July 02, 2017, 04:02:22 AM »
They say there is money to be made by writing and publishing ebooks. You can publish ebooks and earn from your ebook sales on various sites. Amazon has free publishing platform for ebook. Amazon kindle is a wonderful platform to publish ebooks. If you price your book $2.99 and above, you can earn 70 percent royalties. Amazon also has print on demand publishing platform called CreateSpace.
Another great place to make money by publishing ebooks is SmashWords.
Nook Press is also a great place to publish ebooks for free.

Yes, the thing is that to get people to buy your book you have to build up hype for your book in advance. You have to advertise it create a fan page and all sorts of things like this. It is something that almost anyone can do, but you have to plan it advance to sell.

The thing is e-books are cheap and free most of the time and to price your book over $2.99 means you are less likely to get sales. More people are inclined to buy dollar books with a small risk than to pay three bucks.

When I priced my book at a dollar it sold, and the next one I priced at $2.99 and it didn't sell, so price does matter. Of course you get less when you price it lower, but I would rather sell a few at a dollar and make less than zero at $2.99.

I've considered the whole writing books idea before but I've come to this scenario which has put me off from writing one. Let's imagine that you write a really good book about some XY topic. You invested a lot of time, effort and energy into writing it and getting it out there. You're all excited when you get it available for sale but then the book doesn't sell. What are you suppose to do then? What would happen with all that time and energy you've put into it? It would all gone to waste.

I feel like writing these e-books is just so widely popularized that it is so, so hard to get noticed and give your book the needed exposure for it to sell. Unless you have a large follower base, some sort of famous blog or website to advertise your book in advance, I think it would be hard to make it worth your time.

I've heard of people writing Erotica, and I think it sells well, but still, it's a pretty uncertain way of earning money. I imagine there are tons of ebooks out there.

I really like the idea of ebook publishing. Every time I try to start though, I stutter. I'm not sure why. I have written novel-length work both original and fanfiction. I have ghostwritten a ton of short stories. I can do the writing. The thing that scares me is that my experience and my interests lean toward things that I'm not sure I'd want my name attached to. I know you can use an author name on amazon but to get paid, someone has your identifying information. I doubt I'd ever be famous or interesting enough for someone to try to track me down...but would I really want my grandmother or my teenage daughter to know that I get paid to write that stuff?

The other thing that holds me back is that I worry about all of the things other than just writing the book. What's it like to make a cover? Go through the amazon process? What about promotion and author social media presence and...all of that stuff that draws readers and sells books? Those things are way harder than writing.

Writing an e-book is something I want to do in the near future. It sounds like something that wouldn't be too hard to do. You can pick a subject and do research on it or pick a subject you're knowledgeable about already and write a little book and sell it on one of the platforms mentioned. Have you ever read or received an e-book that allowed you to re-use it in any way you like? Can you really resell one of these legally?

Generally speaking, there are two ways to make money from ebooks: one you write and publish ebooks and earn royalties from your book sales, two, you ghost wite ebooks and make money by selling the book to a client. In doing this you forfeit your rights. You can make more money from ghost writing than from self publishing. Your $3 book may earn jut just $2 for one copy sold, however, same size book can earn you around $60 if you sell copyrights.

I have published one ebook. And that ebook is on technical topic. So not a lot earned from it. As there seems to be not much of public interested in that. I think if you can pull up writing consistently then this can make you enough good money out of it. I am sure if you have worked with some book designer, then cover design and the format of export part can be taken care of as well. I have seen some members made use of smashwords and kindle. And I think if you're into writing fiction, then definitely worth checking those two sites.
